Can someone ID this moth?

This moth was on my front porch the other night. It was actually bigger than it looks in the photo:

It's Isabella, the Wooly Bear caterpillar moth.

It's a male Io Moth (Automeris io), one of the silk moths (Saturniidae). If it's wings were wide open you'd see big eye-spots on it on the lower wings. See picture:

Sorry Martin, but this one is an Isabella, not the same:

Yep, you're right naturelover. I looked at photos of both and it's definitely an Io moth.

Yes, the lack of something to compare size and not seeing the inner wings threw me off.

Yeah, I wish it had spread it's wings so I could have seen those inner wings!

Ravenlost, up here in North MS we call them candle moths and the darn things are all in my house. One just tried to take a bath with me a little bit ago but it didn't work out well for him. Maggie

The problem was I was in the tub myself and wet so to rescue him would have meant handling him with wet hands, different scenario, same outcome. I always thought chickens were pretty dumb but, next to moths they are regular Einsteins. Moths are like pretty little Kamakazee pilots when it comes to light bulbs or water for some reason.
