Surfing HT on a "Smart Phone" at a

I somehow submitted this as I was putting in the title!

Surfing HT on a "Smart Phone" at a Remote Homestead

I posted this question in computer questions, but haven't gotten a response and only 5 views so I am asking here.

We only get a 26k connection on dial-up at our homestead so I am using a smart phone for internet.

Question About Viewing HT on a Palm Pre Plus

I use a "Palm Pre Plus" a lot to surf here. Sometimes the forums are displayed in a narrow column which I can widen and view easily with my 1.5 reading glasses by simply scrolling horizontally. This is great! Most of the time the forum appears wider and to get the right sizing I must scroll vertically also....sad face.

Can anyone tell me how to get the narrow display all of the time? I don't think it is a setting on the Palm as it just happens when I come in from a bookmark.

Thanks for your thoughts

I usually "surf" HT with a blackberry curve which displays most parts just fine except I can't find the button to post in the pm section. Other forums, sometimes don't display right. Backwoods Home is one where most of it is unreadable since one column displays on top of another.
So I regret I can't help you specifically with your palm except to say some sites work better than others. There may be a way to adjust the font and column sizes but I haven't found it.
I also pay extra so I can use my blackberry as a "tethered modem" (external modem) with my laptop. This is not high speed, but it does work, so perhaps you could hook your palm to your computer as a best resolution of your display problem.

I use the Verizon LG VX9600. If it comes up in the wide version I just turn the phone 1/4 turn and the screen goes to the wide display. Sorry no help here....James

I'm not sure my Samsung is a "smart phone" but it is how I am here. The browser has a phone setting or a computer setting. The phone setting does the narrow column thing like you are talking about. The toggle is always on the screen and is easy to hit by accident. Otherwise HT behaves the same as when on a computer. HTH

The Palm Pre Plus has a "hot spot" you can link it to your laptop wireless and surf that way.

Thanks Cande. I am doing that right now, but we are on solar electricity and can't keep a laptop on all of the time.
