Where to buy kerosene?
I am thinking about buying a kerosene heater. It's been 15 years and two moves since I had one and at that time, the local Texaco gas station had a kerosene pump. I haven't seen kerosene for sale in ages, so just wondered where any of you buy yours? Do I just need to start calling all the gas stations in the surrounding towns? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Call your local home heating oil distributor. Ask them. They probably wholesale it as well and can tell you where it is available.

Last station I saw it at it was $2.12 a gal. That was at least 20yrs ago. WM sells it, and I got 2 bottles, but I forgot what it cost.

Almost all the gas stations around here sell it. I suppose it is a regional thing. Kerosene heaters are common for winter use here if the electric goes out.

My local Hess station sells K-1 Kerosine for .10 cents more then there Diesel , the only draw back is You have to show Your drivers license to the attendent so He can copy it into a book and You have to sign a K-1 log.
This is so You won't use it illegally , to heat a house ( fire chief checks log's ) or try to use it instead on the road instead of " There Cheaper " Diesel fuel , to save money and avoid the road tax ? $ 2.87 vs $ 2.97 ( Yes there manager is a blonde , and I questioned her on her logic )
I drive to the Hess in Ri. to buy mine , less hassle and cheaper .

Well, thanks folks. Monday I'll let my fingers do the walking in the surrounding towns and see what I can find. Don't think I've ever heard of kerosene being used as a heating fuel in this area. Actually I don't know what it's used for, except the kind I used to get was coloured pink to show either it was road OK or not (can't remember).

I saw an outside tank at one of our Feed/Hardware stores yesterday evening. You might check at your local feed/harware stores, I bet they know a source. I'm not sure where you are located here in Texas, but the place I was referring to is McDonnell Hardware and Feed in Keller TX. Good Luck!

Locally any gas station that sells diesel has a pump close by that has kerosene; haven't seen just one or the other being sold. Also all of the home-heating dealers offer it.

Several of the local gas stations sell K-1 here. It was $2.39/gallon last year. Not cheap but, for us, cheaper than running our electric baseboard heat.

Well, I for sure won't be buying a kerosene heater. The cheapest I could find kerosene for was $4.50 gal. Running the electric central heat would be cheaper than using a kerosene heater. Dang! I was hoping it would be way to help cut electric costs plus have a good back-up heater for outages. I used kerosene in the '80s and it cost much less than gasoline per gallon -- now it's almost twice as much.
Back to the planning board.

Kerosene is popular in my neck of the woods...most all gas stations sell it. The price varies anywhere from $2.89 to $3.19 per gal. I keep kerosene on hand for power outages...backup heat and lanterns.

$3.00 a gallon would make it reasonable for supplemental heat -- $4.50-5.00 doesn't. I'm going back to my original plan of buying or building a solar heating unit. Just wish my house was oriented true south to optimize the heat gain. Ah well, you work with what you have, right?
