S. 510

This may at first seem like a political post... Which it is. But, it also has much to do with homesteading. This bill has the potential to be devastating to homesteaders. What are your views on this bill?

Okay, now that I've had a chance to look at it, I can answer your question.

Like most everything this Congress has passed, I am opposed to it. It expands government control even further into places they do not have the authority to be. I can easily see this as one bill that will lead to large scale unrest if they make any attempt to enforce its provisions on people such as us.

If Deacon Jim's against it - I'm against it.....

Okay...maybe, if it's more govt control- I'm against it.
If it's more govt promises to take care of us - I'm against it.
If it involves hiring more govt employees to over see it - I'm against it.

There have been a number of threads concerning food safety on this forum. The majority think that we need more assurance that our food supply is safe. Unless a food grower or supplier has something to hide, less control over food safety is the last thing we need. Especially so at a time when it is apparent that the opposite is true. Anyone who is against any form of food safety is against my right to life and I don't particularly appreciate that.

Chickenista: Oh?
PB: Well than, the bill should be engineered to exert power over CAFOs, conglomerate farms and big food and drug industries, and should leave small farmers out of the picture. On a local scale, the consumer decides weather or not to eat it. It's called transparency, something industrialized food lacks to an amazing degree, but which small farms do indeed have. I don't know what this particular HR/S will do, but if they have enough control, the average small farmer won't be able to sell locally anymore, for they may need a $100,000 kitchen to sell some goat milk!

The last time we had this come up it has nothing to do with you folks that homestead, so no need to get all ruffled about it. It is only for the big guys and those that import it is a hard read though but I did get through, and don;t just rely on some other publication that has a grudge with "government" to tell a person what is in it.
As the last time this was discussed it has nothing to do with "homesteaders".

My problem with it is that it is an open bill.
They are not passing any actual requirements, but rather giving permission for new requirements to be created within the next year after (if) it passes. Blank slate, if you will.

Also.. the wording.. it does not say it is only for the big guys. It says a 'food production facility".. that is open for future interpretation in any way anyone sees fit.
Neither does it say 'food for sale'.. it just says "food for human or animal consumption". In the future that law could be interpreted to apply to anyone anywhere.
It is too open.

This is about the 20th time I have posted this link. I have never heard a word about whether or not anyone has ever looked, but ehre it comes again.
A friend who got ----akes from the Extension Off. recieved this in the mail. It is a checklist to see if your farm is ready for the new changes they anticipate in the coming years..
Just scroll down a read the stuff.. amazing..

ACK! I clean my veggies in my kitchen. We all regularly eat food in that kitchen. Cross contamination! ACK!

I read up to page 9 and started to fall asleep. 19 pages of questions. Most of what I read I would have to answer no to.
