Well question

For some reason, our water stopped flowing for about an hour then started again.
What could cause that?
We have a submersible, pressure tank, the whole works.

Assuming the pressure switch was sending power to the pump, I’d say that either the watertable had dropped below the pump level and it took an hour for the groundwater to recharge. This would most likely happen after an extended period of water use. Or, the overload was tripped on the pump motor due to overheating.

That’s all I can come up with. I’d wait until our water well expert, Agmantoo, signs on.

There is trash in the connection on the underside of the pressure switch. Remove the pressure switch and clean out the small opening where the water enters the switch. It will be packed with rust and grit.

It was indeed the pressure switch.
It was rusty and the points were in pretty rough shape so we just replaced the whole thing.
Also there was a capacitor in the control box leaking fluid.
Got more pressure now than we've had in months.
