Someone with a better memory may be able to help more, but if I am recalling correctly, Countryside used to have a section called 'Countryside Contacts', where people could advertise for the usual things like buying/selling livestock, real estate, etc etc., but also for personal ads and for help wanted. Apparently a man had answered a familiy's ad, moved in with them to assist on their farm or homestead, and murdered them. I don't remember if it was the whole family or only some of them. After that, personal ads, prison correspondence, etc. was no longer published. I think there were also some attempted legal repercussions toward the magazine. It was all pretty hush-hush, and most people who heard anything about it at all was just bits and pieces. (I had been a subscriber to Countryside since 1979, and only stopped getting it about three years ago. I still buy an occasional copy off the rack. Don't pay attention to the ads so I don't know if they have those kinds of ads again or not) I hope I have not repeated erroneous information, but to the best of my understanding, that is what happened.
I never heard about the TMEN issues, but I wouldn't be at all surprised.
I can certainly understand wanting to have help. I'd really love to be able to hire somone occasionally but lack of $$ is my problem.
Would there be some kind of organization that might be able to help you locate help in that area? Maybe the nearest chamber of commerce or college might have some kind of on-the-job learning or credit for students? You might be able to get some work done in exchange for someone getting valuable hands-on learning.
