Do You Use Hose Splicers?

Those wonderful little things that make two pieces into one.

So easy to cut the bad part out and put in a splicer and away ya go.............

If you're talking about garden hoses, yes. I like the two piece metal ones, that after you install the insert, clamp onto the hose using four screws. They also come in plastic.

Rather than using a splice, I'll cut away the bad section and install a male and female coupling to the cut ends. It not only acts as a splice, but it also provides me with "stand alone" hoses of various lengths.

Yup. Particularly if I have green hoses, kids who don't always put them away when they're done and a husband who mows at the speed of light... lol

I've used it for years. You'll never go back to a typical repair kit or splice or hoseclamps again.

Ive got one too and just love it, and I've fixed a lot of things with it. I bought a small roll of stainless mig welding wire so I would always have plenty ss wire to make repairs.

Back when I was younger and a bit more foolish I had a grand plan. I scrounged up all the old hoses I could find, you might be surprised how many hoses are thrown away, and connected them together. That way I could reach almost any part of our yard. I wound up what a water hose that was about a mile long. Well maybe not a mile but it was really, really, really long. After dragging that monster out and coiling it up a few times I realized why they don't make mile long water hoses.

I now do what CF does. I have hoses from about 100 feet down to one that 3 feet long which is usually connected right at the hose bib. Its so easy to wash out and filling buckets with that little hose, but you'd be surprised how how often that little 3 foot hose is used else where.

I came across that website a couple of years ago and wondered. Does it really work and work well?

That has to be the most worthless webpage I've seen in a while. No info beyond one little picture. No way to contact them if you did want to gamble and buy one..

Here I found this page on simular tool and its bit more useful: http://www.practool.com/clamp-it-tool1.html Its bit higher dollar. Is it the original and the page above some Chinese knockoff?

As to splicing hoses, am I the only one that just jams a short lenth of pipe to make a splice and if its under pressure use couple old hose clamps from my scrap box? Cant remember ever buy proper hose ends or splicing kit.

Huh? I browsed all OVER that site! Fascinating, and I'm contemplating purchasing one. Lots of info there. Are you sure you let the page load up completely?

Its wee hours of morning now so anything that is going to load should do so. More of page loads now, but parts of it are so large one letter of one word fills whole screen.

Here is an example screenshot:

Yes, it works, and quite well. Little bit of a learning curve about how tight to pull and how to curl the ends over, but that only takes about two tries to master. Then you're off and running.

Um, scrolling down is beyond you? Seriously, just one click. There's the buttons for uses, demonstration videos, how to order, etc.

I fill my stock tank with 300 feet of garden hose which gravity drains in the winter, sometimes improperly, resulting in frozen sections that need to be swapped out. So I have a *lot* of hoses! I don't think I've actually bought any of them, though -- I just scarf them up out of people's trash and repair them. I can't believe people will throw away a $30 hose because of a pinhole leak, but ... they do!

Apparently it is, the first time I just got the little pic at top and the price and the website and that was it. My browser showed it fully loaded and there wasnt anything to scroll down to.

The second time in the wee hours I could actually scroll down, but only to read ONE giant letter at a time. Maybe thats acceptable to you, but not worth the bother to me. Look at screen shot in my previous post of an example of what I was seeing as I scrolled down.

Ever who designed that website was mite html challenged. Or more likely they used some cheesey automagical webpage creator program that used lot of proprietary IE ONLY code. Thankfully most websites now test their pages with at least Firefox and get rid of screwy IE only proprietary stuff. A very significant number of people on the net DONT USE IE!!!

Let me appologize for the snarky tone of my reply. 'Twas uncalled for.

The web page is less than remarkable, but the product is quite good.

Ok I'm relying on memory here so cut me some slack. . .seems to me I found that website when I was reading a machinist site. They were talking how easy it was to make tools like this and a lot cheaper. I don't see why you couldn't make one in an couple of hours with nothing more than standard shop hand tools.

We started using a lot of hose splices when we got an Aussie pup. She must have loved the taste of a new garden hose. Gla
d when she grew out of that phase.
