Tire sizing info for Jeep Wrangler...need help. Which size is

bigger.

Here is what I've got. The 99 jeep wrangler book says that the standard tire for this is 225/75r15. The current ones and one of the local tire dealers tell me I can use is 31/10.50r15.

I do think the latter is larger, but by how much. I believe 15 is the rim size.

Here is my point, the former are about 200 dollars cheaper. Will I lose considerable size on this height-wise on the jeep?

thanks for your help

The difference is
28.28 inches diameter vs 30.97 inches

735.5 vs 671 revolutions per mile

The Jeep i had i put 235r75x15 on it much cheaper. Unless the rims have been changed i don't like the 31/10's on stock rims pulls the sidewalls in .

True as the "10" means the tire or "tread", is 10 inches wide. And unless you have wide rims to put those on, they will "pull" the side walls in, not the best IMO. Too much flexing going on for the sidewalls to suit me.

31's will probably rub without a lift. I have 3" of lift and 31's fit just right.

The 225's will give you better traction on snow & rain, the 31's will give you better traction (read: floatation) in mud and sand.
