looking for this

Many years ago Organic Gardening Magazine printed a recipe for eggplant pizza. It was amazing stuff. I lost the recipe and was wondering if anyone has this. I am guessing that this was printed about 25 years ago back when Organic Gardening was in the smaller book format.

I have a huge box of old Organic Gardening magazines. Would you happen to know what issue it was in? Even just the year would help.

This guy was the Editor for the magazine in 1970's, his blog has alot of recipes, you could maybe email him and see if he has it if I can't dig it up.

I remember the smallr book format. I used to read every word and felt like the editor was an actual friend. I remember when they fired him and he wrote his last editorial, saying he felt like a bug on a windshield. I canceled my subscription and haven't bought any of their publications since. However, they shuffled him off to a job somewhere in "research." If you have any old issues or could find his name somewhere, I bet he has copies of the issues archived and I'm sure he's nice enough to go to the trouble of finding your recipe for you.

I am not sure of the year. It may have been in the early 90's. I know this is a real longshot. It may have been midsummer or fall. Sorry.

I went on a search for this recipe and discovered this thread: http://www.homesteadingtoday.com/arc.../t-185281.html 3+ years a is long time to long for a recipe! I'd be glad to help find something similar (if not the "real" one not attributed to OG) as would others I'm certain but need some ideas about ingredients. Dough or not? Grilled or fresh ingredients? Heck, if it's that good, I want to make eggplant pizza too from the recipe that meets your standards/memory.

It was made with dough and the eggplant was fresh. It was the seasonings that really made it pop. I guess I could just monkey around with it once my egglants are ready.

Dixienc, thank you SO much for the website! I just checked it out and found Jeff Cox's design for a teaching garden for the National Mall. Wow! I want to make one right here! The guy is a genius! No wonder the original OG was so great and I loved it so much and I'm still going through withdrawal symptoms every time I think of when they fired Jeff Cox.
What a shame tmen didn't hire him! Can't wait to hook up my laptop at A hot spot and see the teaching garden design and other lovely ideas that site will be bursting with! Thanks thanks thanks!
If you know of any other exciting such sites, would you post them? Not highjack this eggplant pizza thread, but start a new resource thread of your Amazing Website Finds???!!! Thanks.

I have now studied a bazillion eggplant pizza recipes! (Not really.) Many do not call for herbs which is a shame IMO--basil, oregano and thyme add so much flavor. Did this one have a "pizza" sauce? Cheese? Did it involve other veggies besides eggplant (i.e., zucchini, peppers, mushrooms, onions, etc.)? Do you recall if you cooked the eggplant 1st? And, if so, how? I'm ready to go buy some eggplants and test a few...

How about this one? It calls for purchased ready-made dough, but you could make it from your own favorite recipe or one off the net. I don't even like eggplant, but this one sounds good to me! lol

Have you contacted the magazine and asked them?

Yes I have and they didn't have it. I was hoping that they had it on a cd or something like some magazines do.
