Weird thing with forum

When I go through the different forums here I always go to the top right and use the tool to mark it "read" when I'm finished. The titles all go to non-bold then. By doing this when I come back on the forum I can tell right away which ones have a new post added while I was gone because they are in bold. Works great but lately it hasn't been working...I do the same thing and the titles all go to non bold but when I come back they are all in bold again...The ones I already marked as read. Anyone else use this system and not have it work all the time? Or know what I might be doing to make it not work sometimes?

I'll have to try that...

Maybe logging out would help?

Hummm........ My"thread tools" do not have a "mark it read" option, but it has always done that as long as I am signed in. Any threads with unread posts will be in bold and others will not. I never checked for that option, just always thought it was automatic. The only time it does not work that way is when I am not signed in.

I mostly access this forum with a blackberry curve so some things visible on my laptop screen do not display on the blackberry. I never tried to check a box saying I had read something but find the program knows anyway. When I pull up a thread to read which I have previously read, a line is displayed "view first unread" which when I click on it, takes me to unread posts. If that line doesn't appear, then I know there isn't any new post on that thread. I also subscribe to the threads I find most interesting, which works fine for me.

The pages have been updating very slowly! When you come back just refresh the page.

I don't even see that, but I look at the forums from the index, then forum, then thread.

How do you start so you can see that "mark forums as read"?
found it, under forum tools pull down.

And Kung would be more likely to help you figure this out if posted in Computer forum or at least Admin forum

I'll try to describe it better. I go to Goats. Click on and read the ones I want. Go back to the main goat page where all the threads are listed. The ones I have read are not in bold anymore (good) I'm done with this page so I go to the almost top right where it says "forum tools" click on that and then click on "mark this forum as read". All the titles are not in bold then. Then I go to Pets and repeat the process. Then I go back to goats and see all the threads and nobody has posted a new thread so none are bolded. But sometimes when I go back...the ones that I had marked as read are not marked anymore(still bolded). I am always logged in. It happens if I go all the way out of HT and come back or if I don't ... seems to have a mind of it's own! lol. It used to work perfect all the time...once I marked the forum as read...nothing was bolded unless it was a new post or someone posted on the one I had read after I marked it read.

Did you try refreshing the page when it happens?

No I haven't...I guess because it would happen say in the morning and then I would go to work come home and the ones I marked read were bold even though there were no new comments. I thought it had enough time to refresh LOL!!! I'll try that though and see what happens.

Nope...refresh doesn't work. I just marked this forum as read. All titles were now not bolded. Went completely out and onto another website, made a phone call, came back here and everything from early this morning on was in bold...like I had never read them.

Have you tried closing all your browser windows and restarting the computer? I tend to leave my computer on all the time and have at least one browser window open with something I'm saving to look at later. Every now and then I have to close everything and restart because my computer stops keeping track of what I have read already. On very rare occasions I have to delete cookies too, but usually closing down and restarting takes care of the problem.

Same thing happens to me. Drives me CRAZY.

I don't mark the forum "read" but I do count on the threads I read being non-bold, and not being bold again until there's a new post. Problem is, they get bold again when there is NOT a new post. It happens if I leave the forum and come back, and it happens when I refresh the page.

Also, when I click to go to the newest unread post in a thread, it takes me to posts I already read hours before instead of the new ones.

Grrrrrrrr.
