Another Firewood Question

Is it just me or does Firewood dry out faster outside uncoverd?

I had Firewood inside and outside uncoverd seems the wood outside dries faster. After awhile I will get it inside but it still seems drier than the wood that has been inside all the time.

My thinking is its like Hay if its out in the Sun and Air it dries faster.

I agree! Air and sunshine must help it along. We always pile ours outside and move inside the wodshed in the fall.

Ive had folks argue both ways with me about it but I am like yall. I prefer mine out in the elements for long as possible then I move it under roof. If anything like last winter it wont have much time under roof.

Not just you. I leave mine uncovered all summer and into fall.

We have ours piled in the middle of a big corncrib. There's good airflow but doesn't get rained on.

I keep mine outside all the time. Seems to dry pretty quickly. Makes sense that the sun would help it dry faster.

You are right, Rock. It is a bit like hay. The drying process is a function of air change more than anything else. Sun causes air position to change because hot air rises and new air arrives to replace it. The new air soaks up the moisture and then rises when it heats up.
