Anyone ever cut a woodstove down?

I found a Papa Bear I like but it is too long for my hearth, I was thinking about taking the back off and chopping the stove down so it would fit...

Good question. How good of a welder are you? I would think you would have to do some pretty good welding to make it secure and leak proof.

I would be careful of cutting it down.....since that would make it "home made" and your insurance will not cover any wood heating device in around a house that is home made.

This thread has a funny title. I thought you were making a joke about cutting down a tree. My mind works in strange ways.

What is it made of?

If it's cast iron, you might not be able to weld it.

Sell it and get another. Try Craigslist.

For safety reasons there is no way I would attempt it.
