Talking Successful Barters for Land

The thread i started below about wanting scofflaws got hijacked!
So here it is again. First, I got the land I have by barter. IT CAN BE DONE! I swapped land I had in West Virginia for land within easy commute of where I was working. The man I swapped with had acquired his land from his father who had bought it during the Carter years when second, recreational acreages were favorable investments, but the father moved to Colorado and my "seller" lived in West Virginia. I traded him two lots which he sold to pay off a $40,000 mortgage so he could release his land to me. He then ended up free and clear with a third lot and I ended up with my land (and some problems which I will spare you which were glossed over during the transaction which we had to work out ourselves because lawyers were stymied.

So, I know one can do land for land, equal basis. I took courses on how to get rich with the Allen and Givens guys so I know about three-way swaps. In my earlier thread, Palani was describing what I am talking about, you pay $1 (or $10, some token amount) "and other valuable consideration."

So if you have ever gotten or swapped away land for barter, what other valuable consideration was the basis of the exchange?

In my earlier thread, Ernie said " I am a 100% supporter of barter systems, up to and including this as well. However I'd cover my legal bases very carefully from both sides before I'd ever enter into any such arrangement with anyone I didn't know personally and for many years.

"I didn't realize land costs in Central Virginia were so dear that anyone who knew how to construct a home couldn't find at least a couple of cheap acres to put it on." (oh ha ha what do you call "cheap???" anyway that's thread drift, right?)

"Good luck finding someone to enter into this arrangement with you. About every three months we see the same sort of deal and I've never actually heard from anyone how it worked out. I'd love to know more about the end results of such a situation."

Well, I have never seen any reference to bartering for land here so I, too, sure would like to know about some of the earlier posts and what, if anything was the result???? Hopefully, the GOOD reports and also suggestions of things I ought to be cautious of. Thanks.

I haven't personally, but the neighbor across the street swapped property with someone else.

She had 4 acres with a decent trailer, but the pipes broke and the furnace had died. They survived one winter with a hose and space heaters, then just couldn't take it anymore (It was grandmother, mother, and 7yo boy). They traded for a trailer in town on a postage stamp of land that needed a lot of aesthetics work but the more expensive stuff was a-ok. It worked out perfectly for her all the way around and she is extremely happy with her new place, and we like our new neighbors

I think it definitely can be done. One of those things that is never advertised and probably much easier if you know lots of people (or know people who know lots of people).

House/Land barter and or swapping has been going on for years.
I think if it is what you want and makes all involved happy; Go for it.

The old lady across the road from me traded a refrigerator for her house and 10 acres. At that time the house was a chicken coop which her husband and her coverted into a house. I think she did the trade in the 50s or early 60s.

Wife's grandfather traded land for a trivial amount of tobacco. Another place another time of course.

My in-laws swapped a VW Beetle for an acre or two back 30 plus years ago.

I was thinking about doing this. I have 75 acres and would like to have a piece of land in a warmer climate for winters. I heard there was a website for home/land bartering, some for just allowing a place to stay for a visit when vacationing and some to trade up.

Anyone heard of that site?
