Broccoli Water?

Recently after harvesting and freezing our spring crop of broccoli and cauliflower I got to looking at that green colored water left in the pot from blanching the vegetables and thought it was too good to throw away.

I poured it off into the DW's gallon ice tea jug and put it in the fridge to cool. Then I dipped out a cup, micro'd it for about two and a half minutes, and threw a chicken bouillon into the cup. Tastes pretty good to me.

Wife gets home and wants to know what ta heck is in the jug. I tell her. She says it's disgusting and I'm going to die from drinking it. Whadda ya all think. Keep in mind that I usualy spray twice, once when I put the transplants out to keep the flea beetles at bay, and then one more time a couple weeks later to battle the cabbage worms (of which I found none at harvest time) And I soak in salted water and rinse before blanching. And bear in mind that it's been a couple weeks now and I ain't dead yet, nor do I seem to have suffered any ill effects from this elixir.

You won't die. Heck, folks pay big bucks for dehydrated powdered veggies in a capsule.

Personally, I think it's gross, but I won't eat leftover broccoli, either.

Sounds good to me LOL, I might even use it to cook rice or pasta in.

Freeze it into cup-size (or whatever size suits you) and use it for making gravy, vegetable stock for soup etc. Cooking pasta in it could be interesting too and something I might experiment with.

And of course it won't kill you or make you sick - the broccoli doesn't does it, so why should the water it was blanced/cooked in.

Cheers,
Ronnie

If you didn't spray them, I'd say the water would be too good to waste. It's one way make soup stock.

On the other hand, I wouldn't want to drink the pesticides. Use it for wetting down your compost.
