Grain preservation

I'm not sure which forum to use, so I'll try this. Several months ago, there was an article in CS where a person told how much dry ice to use in a given amount of grain to kill weevil, etc. The idea was to put the dry ice in, pour the grain in and seal it up. I've misplaced the magazine and desparately need that info now. Anyone out there know? Or what other wonderful means do you use, short of freezing the grain (there's 'way too much) to reach the same goal?

Been lurking for about 2 years, thought it was time to start sharing. I just prepared 24 bushels of wheat that I grow. I pour it into plastic drums and mix it with diatamaceouse earth,(food grade). I store this in the barn and use it in the goat and chicken feed. We also mix this in with the wheat that we store in the house for grinding into flour. We have never had a problem with weevils in anything that was treated in this manner. Have been living on 34 acres and homesteading for 30 years in Holmes County, Ohio.

come on down to the survival and emergency prep subforum, as lots of people there are doing this sort of thing.

the "bible" of food preservation is written by A.T. Hagan. it'll answer your question, and answer the next 20 questions you're likely to have, and a couple dozen more that you didn't know to even ask:

what time frame are you storing your wheat for? if you're planning on using the wheat within in the next year or so, you probably don't need to go to so much trouble to store it.

if you're just interested in killing weevils, you can rotate your grain thru a freezer for 3-4 days, which is what i do.

but i'd say read the faq linked above, as it has a ton of info, all of it good, and well researched, with multiple options and the pros and cons of each.

get a chuck of dry ice, (handle with gloved hands) and put in the bottom put the grain in, the CO2 gas is heaver, then oxygen, and it will fill the container up with CO2 and put out the oxygen, put the lid on but not tight so the expanding gas can escape,

on the dry ice, try to get the frost off of it, so you do not add moisture to the grain,
