Ammo and transport
You would not believe the amount of Ammo my husband has squirreled away in every part of this house!!
Of course the movers can't take it and he wants me to bring it, so it would have to go in the car.
Would be driving from OR to VA.
OK.. the question is.. how much Ammo can I bring across state lines legally?
Or would it be better to just have him buy more at the other end?

There are no restrictions for non-commercial transport
I'd put it all in the trunk if possible
It wouldn't be a good idea to try to replace it at today's prices

Better question is can your vehicle carry that much weight? Ditto to what Bearfootfarm stated.

Thank you for responding!
I have more like a van, but I will put them in a box so no one can see. Yes, the E can handle it. VBG Will be putting as much stuff in the car as I can when we go across. Will just put the ammo box on the bottom of said pile.
Goodness tell me about it. Seems like Ammo just keeps going up in price!

Drive safety and don't speed or drive while tired. That is why most people are puled over. If stopped don't seem nervous and tell them you are moving from OR to VA. Also go the southern route. In the north they are more nervous of anything to do with guns. In the southern states it is normal to have some ammunition in your van. I would drive Interstate 40 most the way (avoid California).

Different states have different laws. And some get downright persnickity about ammo. Especially if you've got guns in the same car. I can think of several you could pass through on that trip that you could find yourself in hot water.
Were it me, I'd carry it all in the trunk, inaccessable from the seats inside the car. None of the guns would be loaded, they would all be in cases, and the ammo would all be securely packaged.
For heavens sake, don't go stuffing the ammo and guns under the seats.

There might be an issue if travelling through the District of Columbia, so avoid that if possible.

If you can fit it all in one box, you don't have very much ammo!

Perhaps if you stock up on feminine needs and pack boxes of those around your ammo?? Back when I was young and "stoopid" (well, stoopid-er) I was questioned by sheriff's deputies when my car broke down on my way to work near Durham, NC because there was a home break-in nearby and I happened to be wearing the right color coat and carrying the right color bag - lucky me! Well, once they found my bag to contain mostly feminine products (and of course I'd been nowhere near the crime scene), they really hurried things up to get me on my way. Picture two guys in uniform holding a handful of those...
Sorry, guys.

You can drop it all off at my house and save yourself the hassles.
Be careful looking like you are moving when you stop at motels for the night. I know a guy who had his UHaul trailer stolen from the parking lot once. Cops said the local thieves were on the lookout for people moving.

No,, is only about 100lbs of Ammo. So not a super big stock but enough.
Could always put the Cat's litter box on top of the Ammo. . . . . should keep people away. LOL
Ha... DH might have an issue with that Ed. LOL
Will be safe, have an alarm on the E and have done a number of cross country trips in the past. Have Bear spray and such and not afraid to use them. VBG

I just drove from Washington State to Missouri with thousands of rounds in my truck along with a couple handguns. I kept them unloaded in the tool box and checked before hand if there was any issue with doing that, there wasnt. We went through Washington, Montana, Wyoming, S Dakota (I-90) and then down through Iowa into Missouri.
BearFootFarm has it right, no issue with non-commercial transport of your ammunition. I wish we had carried a lot of my shop stuff too that the movers wouldnt take (WD-40, carb cleaner, solvents, etc.) as we spent a bundle once we got here.

I have 100 lbs of 22 shells not to mention the shot guns and pistol shells. That isn't anything to worry about If you were trying to transport 1000 lbs they will look at some terrorist activity but with 100 lbs they wouldn't unless you gave them reason to.

The unload guns ( 30-30, shot guns, .22's and Beebee rifle) will be going with the movers, so no issues there.
The movers won't take the ammo, is why I will be putting it in the car with me.
I have what is basically a Van. No trunk.

Had the same problem with a hatchback of mine.
Your aproach to shoving it down low and inaccessable is about as good as you're going to get. Just be cool if you do get pulled over for speeding or such.

100 lbs. ammo. That is like change in the ashtray. It don't amount to much but you don't want it to be visible. I would make two boxes of it, not so hard on the back.

I'd stashed it under those two big old potted plants and rolled em right in that moving van All but the twenty five pounds in my high capacity mags in case of a social misunderstanding while moving .

Most states have what’s called a” right of peaceable passage law” as long as you are peaceably passing through and don’t mess up you won’t be bothered.
The best thing you can do is make sure your vehicle is properly licensed, keep the plates clean, have registration and proof of insurance with you and easily accessible. Check to see all lights and turn signals work properly, and use them, see that your vision isn't blocked by boxes or baggage.
Stay in the proper lane, and don’t be yakking on the phone while driving. And probably most important, don't drive too fast or even worse too slowly. In other words be as innocuous as possible, do nothing that would attract attention.
When I worked in law enforcement the rule of thumb was if someone looks/acts guilty or nervous they probably need to be checked out.
You would be surprised how many people are stopped because they failed to follow these common sense rules. An arrest was made on I-70 in Columbia, MO last month; a guy was transporting 50+ pounds of pot, and didn’t have a rear license plate. Probably would have gotten away with it if he hadn’t taken the rear plate off to put on another vehicle.
