Well, I asked Bill how to move assparagus? He said digging up new roots is easiest. The old ones could be dug up and moved but you will probably lose many of the plants.Roots will get broken and the shock of disturbing them may also cause some to die. Digging up new assparagus roots that have been reseeded from the old growth will probably be more successful. He just gave some new growth roots to a neighbor to plant yesterday. Sometimes there is no choice but to start over.
It isn't much different than moving trees to replant. Bill dug up 60 young Spuce trees that were from 6 inches to two feet tall.More than half survived replanting. The majority that survived were the smallest ones.We had a dry Spring which didn't help. He watered all well before planting but only the strongest survived.
