Some days it just doesn't pay to get our of bed!

I know you've all had days like this.....
Last Sunday (5-30-10) a big rain storm hit our area. Went out to check fences after first wave of rain. Water had piled mud on fence in one place, causing "T" post to lean. Dug out mud, pushed post with hand, lost balance in wet mud and top of post took large hunk of meat out of right wrist and arm. Fell to ground and became tangled up in electric fence (at least storm didn't knock it out LOL). So rolling on ground bleeding badly from arm and getting the you know what shocked out of me. Wire finally broke stopping the shock part. Went to spring pond to wash out wound, goat jumps on my back knocking me into pond (at least the wound got washed LOL). Tried to catch and kill goat but arm hurting to bad. Drove back to house with blood running everywhere. After getting home and dressing wound I find lighting has hit house. TV out, radio out, clocks out, computer out, central heat and air unit out (at least house didn't burn down LOL)
Now the good news, no one died (well I haven't caught that goat yet LOL), the heating and air has been fixed, the TV is fixed, radios replaced, clocks replaced and as you can see the computer is now working. O, and arm is healing but hurts like heck. (and yes I got a T shot, at least nurse was good looking LOL)
So, I've been out of touch for this past week. Hi everyone, hope you've all had a great week!!!!!

Hank

I've had days like that! The ones I remember the best all seemed to involve Angus cattle for some reason. I didn't end up bloody ... and no lightning involved.

Before I say this, I'm glad both you and the goat are OK. So, having said that...

But I bet it involved rusty barbed wire, decrepit old corrals, a 3 year old gelding, and an untrained blue heeler....

Hank, I really laughed (but in sympathy). Yes, I've had days like that before, but not for a while.

Wasn't quite that bad, but it was the horse that "anybody that can't ride" got put on, who absolutely refused to exert himself ... I'm sure the "over and under" with the lariat would have been extremely interesting to watch as I was getting him with one "over" and the bull with the following "over" ...

... and no dog ...

I'm not sure why, but we never had working stock dogs. In fact, none of the ranchers in that small area where I grew up had them, I never rode for anyone that had any.

We always had one or two dogs, but they weren't working stock dogs, they were "farm guard dogs" ... kept the skunks and coyotes away from the chickens, etc. but never got in around the cattle.

Most of the ones I encountered were general nuisances. Only thing they were good for was running deer out of thickets and catching ol' Petters' feral hogs.

Dear Hank, I'm so sorry you had a bad day and were injured and shocked by your electric fence. I don't think the goat meant to annoy you; I think it just wanted to play. Hope you are feeling better soon. ((((((((((((((((BIG HUGS)))))))))))))))))
