I posted some where in the past about the difficulty we were having finding somebody willing to cover a homestead under renovation with some sort of insurance coverage against loss from storm damage, liability and contents.
It was next to impossible to find a regular big name company that was willing to even talk to us.
Then somebody suggested contacting our local farm bureau. So I called the Mo Farm Bureau main office in Jeff City and they referred me to the office in Macon County in Macon.
I talked to a really nice guy there who didn't laugh at me when I told him what we had and what we were looking for. In fact, he told me that they were insuring another Amish Homestead that had been purchased by an Englisher that was a combination dairy barn/house and was positive that he could help us out.
He called us this morning and had driven out to check both of our properties and said, yes, he could write us a policy for both, loss, liability, contents and injury for under 1000 dollars for both properties. We were thrilled. This also gave us a Farm Bureau membership.
So if you are having trouble getting your Homestead insured because it is a Homestead, and if you are dealing with crops or livestock, even if your livestock is chickens and dogs, contact your local Farm Bureau before you give up hope.
No sense in taking chances with your investment.

AND A BIG THANKS TO WHOEVER IT WAS WHO POINTED ME IN THAT DIRECTION!
