Drinking raw milk may reduce risk of sunburn

http://www.foodrenegade.com/should-you-use-sunscreen/

An interesting article. Just the other day I was noticing that while we might get pink neither the kids or I have gotten sunburned this year. Which is very unusual, especially for me. According to this article that might be because of the rich, raw goats milk and free range eggs I've been eating.

Funny you should mention that. I have spent the past three days out in the sun after being cooped up inside all winter. I too have turned pink but haven't burned at all. The back of my neck especially was exposed while I was bent over picking rocks for three days and I was thinking I should have bought some sunblock, but the red is gone and no burn.. I am a regular consumer of raw cows milk.

So you all are saying it is true, that drinking raw milk is like putting on sun screen? Based on One Persons story. I see
Wow now that is a scientfic study if I ever heard one.

They are saying it is true from their own personal experience not one person's story!

Geesh.

The point of the article was that suns exposure does not cause melanoma skin cancer. (Melanoma being the most deadly type.)

Quote:
Two independent studies published in the Feb. 2005 issue of the prestigious Journal of the National Cancer Institute (JNCI) squarely contradict the popular myth that UV light causes melanoma.
The author then goes on to state what they believe works to prevent sunburn. And they quote a study in the The American Health Foundation Journal that would seem to support their personal observations.

Quote:
Epidemiological, experimental, and mechanistic data implicate omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) as stimulator’s and long-chain omega-3 PUFAs as inhibitors of development and progression of a range of human cancers, including melanoma.

If you knew anything at all about raw milk from grass fed cows/goats and eggs from pastured hens then you would know that they are great sources of Omega 3.

Quote:
The University of Aberdeen announced today that early results of a new research project confirm that organic milk is a good alternative source of omega 3.

The research, which compared the omega 3 content of organic and conventional milk shows that organic milk can contain up to 71% more omega 3 than non-organic milk and has a better ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 than conventional milk. ~ University of Aberdeen

Quote:
Free-range eggs contained only about half as much cholesterol, were up to twice as rich in vitamin E, and were two to six times richer in beta carotene (a form of vitamin A). For essential omega-3 fatty acids (vital for optimal heart and brain function), the free-range eggs averaged four times more than factory eggs. ~ Mother Earth News

In addition to the above, AOL just ran a story last week about the potential danger of sunscreens in an article entitled: Study: Many Sunscreens May Be Accelerating Cancer

I guess I should be drinking more of the goats milk coming into my house. I got three layers of sunburn the week before last when it actually stopped raining. I thought I was beyond that point with as much time as I spend outside every single day.

I'll keep that article in mind when I pass up a glass of milk for a cup of coffee.

Since Coppertone hasn't been around since the dawn of man and we all didn't die of skin cancer, there must be something to all this eating the food God created, in the form he created it.

Coffee pulls calcium out of the body - fortunately goats milk is higher in calcium than cows milk so you should be able to make up the deficit.

And I don't think the point was that you won't ever get a sunburn, just that a healthy balanced diet means you skin has a better shot at defending itself.

If a grownup wants to risk skin cancer, go for it. To endanger a child with it later in life (my skin doc said future skin cancers have more to do with childhood sun exposure than adult exposure) because of someones 'views' is bordering on *insert negative words here*.

I'll double dog guarantee you you'll never get sun burn if you do like people that live in gawdawful hot deserts do... cover your body up with cloth or wool, from head to toe. Long pants, long sleeve shirt, big floppy hat. If you're out on a lake, or on a glacier, use appropriate coverings, or sunscreen.

I drinketh from the raw cup daily (squeezed the girls already this morning), but I haven't got baptized in the Raw Milk Save's Church yet.
