For our county, we have to get homemade trailers inspected by the sheriff's department before we can apply for registration papers or plates. We have never had a manufactured trailer inspected.

NC requires SOME types of trailers to have a yearly inspection.
You need to check with your state DMV

http://dor.mo.gov/mvdl/motorv/help.htm#safety

"Other vehicles exempt from a safety inspection:

1.* "Even" model year vehicles with registrations expiring in "odd" calendar years;
2.* "Odd" model year vehicles with registrations expiring in "even" calendar years;
3.All trailers;
4.Motor vehicles engaged in interstate commerce and registered with the Missouri Department of Transportation;
5.Motor vehicles that display historic plates;
6.Motor vehicles sold for junk, salvage or rebuilding;
7.Motor vehicles sold from dealer to dealer; and
8.Low speed vehicles as defined in Section 304.029, RSMo."

This is from the MO Div. of MV site. Evidently trailers are exempt from inspection.

What's an inspection?

Don't think Minnesota has thought of that one yet. They have most other restrictions one can ever think of, but - I have 2 licenced trailers, 2 farm trailers, and umteen farm wagons. Don't know what an inspction is or would do?

Many states have no trailer inspection. I drive a truck for a living and can tell you that many trailers need more than an inspection. I see people towing trailers that are an accident waiting to happen, or many times I see the accident that has already happened.

Ask the MO State Highway Patrol since they will be the ones in your rear view mirror.

Our boat trailer, utility trailer and horse trailer have tags but no inspection. Not sure about campers. Our cars have to be inspected to make sure all the lights, brakes, wipers, etc. work correctly.

In Missouri if you have a title you go to Dept of Revenue License Office and they sell you the tags very simple. If it has no title you need to go to Highway Patrol in Springfield and they will inspect it and supply you with paper work to take to Dept of Revenue.
