So how is this paper mulch made? Water & paper & maybe some fertiizer put through a roller? You are spending how much to stop a few weeds and have it bio-degrade into your veggie bed to buy more the next year?

Why not prepare your soil correctly to begin with, put down newspaper to prevent weeds and some fertilizer if you use it.

Sorry if I stepped on your toes - It really boggles my mind that people are so nonthinkingly gullible and would spend so much money on junk like this.

I don't know how it's made. Ya, I just put papers down and put grass clippings on top. But it might be good for larger gardens, say people that have market gardens. And ya know, some people have more money than Time.

We use around 5,000' a year. Newspaper is a lot more labor intensive/labor expensive than rolling out mulch. The mulch we're using now is not biodegradable and has to be pulled at the end of the season. It takes more time to clean it up than it does to put it down and burn holes. I'd like to find one that breaks up on its own in around 100 days. Thanks for posting the link. Maybe I'll order a roll of the non-fertilizer and give it a try.

i bought a lovely paper shredder last year..and I have been shredding a large amount of the paper junk mail and cardboard that comes into the house and using it both on the garden and in the compost pile and tumbler..

i can't really imagine paying for paper when there is a lot that comes and goes into your own home

And besides, mostly everything except that glossy stuff uses soy ink - that's organic and easily biodegradable.... Send me your money - I'll send you my shredded paper! Geesh! More money than time!

DH said he wanted to order a roll to check it out too, so another thanks to 7thswan for the link!

This claims to take 8 months to break down which is great for us, but shipping is high at almost $50 for a $70 roll! I need to look at what we are paying for plastic mulch (and then double that for the convenience of not having to pull this paper stuff up and dispose of it! lol)

Newsprint doesn't hold up to rain unless you cover it with another form of mulch.
