The starter on my Commercial 12 blew up - the permanent magnets "disintegrated". If anyone has a working used starter or a dysfunctional starter with a functional outer casing, from a Kohler K-301 or K-271 (they're interchangeable), please contact me if you'd be willing to sell or barter it...

That's a very common starter, available on Ebay and through dealers, as are all the parts. Any decent shop should be able to rebuild it like new also. Same starter is used on a whole bunch of different garden tractors- Simplicity/Allis and Ford/Jacobsen for instance. That;s a starter generator too, different from the units on the older Gravely engined models.
