Cub Cadet?

I have a Lawn Tractor--a Cub Cadet 1782 Diesel. Some time ago, I think I got some dirty fuel in it. We started off changing filters, it has 2 fuel filters, a plastic in line--then a paper filter. We've (actually my SIL)changed filters several times, cleaned lines--and even the tank. A mechanic suggested the fuel pump.
It starts, runs maybe a half hour mowing, starts losing power, starts and stops on the way to its garage. It does start back up each time--but its not running right, and wont power the mower..
Think it might be the pump? or other suggestions? Says fuel pump cant be bought online--and really, $85. isnt too bad for the price, but is it simple to change.?
Site listed shims, etc that might be needed.

My brother and I have argued over fuel several times. He'll take more chances than I will, but just one batch of dirty/watered fuel can really mess up a tractor for a long time. There just seems no sure fire way to get all the "crap" out once you get it in the system/lines. Given that, its hard to say if a new pump/injector will solve the problem. Maybe you should just try cleaning everything/blowing it out and changing the filters (again) first, then go with the new pump if needed. I'm not mechanically inclined, but I have "bled" and "primed" diesel lines with some success, which you would have to do after installing a pump. I'm not sure how your tractor is set up, but it seems the worst that could happen is that you would try and fail...and then hire a mechanic. Best wishes getting it fixed.

How was the tank cleaned? I had a lawn mower get some water in it from some that got into a can.

I dumped out what I could and then used a rag to soak up any remaining fluid. That took care of it.

Personally I doubt it is the fuel pump, I assume you do mean fuel pump and not the injector pump.

I doubt that it would help but compared to the cost of a pump you might run some conditioner through it as much as you can.

Nice machine. Easy to work on.

I'd be very suspicious that your fuel system isn't as clean as you think and that you're suffering from fuel starvation. Hopefully, it's because the 1st filter is partially clogged, restricting fuel to the engine.

Were it mine or a customer of mine, I'd pull the tank and clean it. I'd fluid clean the lines, replace the filters, and flow check the system.

Thanks everyone. Heres whats been done--. SIL has cleaned filters twice, replaced both with new twice. He cleaned lines once, replaced lines last time--at least past the filters. Cleaned out the tank with carb. cleaner, then blew it out. The Mecanic suggested it was the fuel pump-(injector pump, is this different?) Anyhow, its a small pump just past the second filter, think thats the one they mean. The reason I thought it might be-is because after it starts acting up, it dies more often on uphill. slant. Yes, just like it gets starved for fuel.
