Need a "Survival" type of song......

I need to set some background music/song to a picture video presentation about survival gardening and i need a song to go along with it, something like hank williams jr's "a country boy can survive" which i like but i am hoping for some other options to select from and since i do not get the time to listen to music much i am hoping someone here knows of some songs suited for this. Thanks

Rage against the Machine-Bulls on parade
off there second album Evil Empire.

Something about that chorus of:
"Rally round your family,
with a pocket full of shells"

It somehow speaks to me?

How about Where the Green Grass Grows by Tim McGraw or Where Corn don't grow by Travis Tritt?

IMHO, one of the best current songs about survival is "This Ain't Nothin' " by Craig Morgan. It might not be suitable for a gardening video, but it sure makes my eyes wet up every time I hear it.

check out the lyrics to " Everything's OK" by the original Hank Williams Sr.
I went to the country just the other day
To see my Uncle Bill and sorta pass the time away
I asked him how he'd been since at last I'd passed his way
He rubbed his chin and here's what he had to say
My wife's been sick and the young'ns too and I'm durn near down with the flu
The cow's gone dry and the hens won't lay but we're still a livin' so everything's okay
The hogs took the cholera and they've all done died
The bees got mad and they left the hive
The weevils got the corn and the rain rotted the hay
But we're still a livin' so everything's okay
The porch rotted down that's more expense
The durned old mule he tore down the fence
The mortage is due and I can't pay but we're still a livin' so everything's okay
The cow broke in the field and ate up the beans
The durn rabbits they got the turnip greens
And my mainlaw just moved in to stay but we're still a livin' so everything's okay
My land's so poor so hard and yeller
You have to sit on a sack of fertilizer to raise an umbrella
And it rains out here nearly every day but we're still a livin' so everything's okay
The well's gone dry and I have to tote the water
Up from the spring about a mile and a quarter
My helper he quit for lack of pay but we're still a livin' so everything's okay
The house it leaks it needs a new top when it rains it wets everything we got
The chimney fell down just the other day but we're still a livin' so everything's okay

The corn meals gone and the meat's run out
Got nothin' to kill to put in the smokehouse
The preacher's comin' sunday - to spend the day
But - we're still a-livin' - so ever'thing's okay.

The canned stuff's spoiled - else the jar's got broke
And all we got left is one old billy goat
We're gonna have a new baby about the first of may
But - we're still a-livin' - so ever'thing's okay.

My crop it rotted - in the ground
I asked for another loan but the banker turned me down
But - we're still a-livin' and we're prayin' for better days
So - after all, ever'thing's in purty good shape.

I thought a little more about your request. This is the song you want!

Look At Them Beans
by Johnny Cash

This time last year there sure was a lot of sad faces around this old house
Our papa died without fullfillin' his life's dream
Of producing one of the best crops in Grimes County
Though papa died with that dream still in his head
A desire in his heart a promise on his lips callusess on both hands
And two dollars in his pocket

Papa didn't live long enough to see his dreams come true
So he died from too much work broken spirit I guess
But I promised our mama that if it was a last thing he'd ever do
He'd live long enough to see just one good crop come through
But you see we can't plan on things without first talking to God
Because we don't know his plans and if we don't include him my friends
The way can get mighty hard

They say that everytime a good and righteous person
Is buried in God's good earth it's just fortilizer for the soil
And I guess there must be some truth to that whether we believe it or not
I just wish that papa was here right now
So that he could see this good crop that we fin'ly got

Hey look at that beans and look at that corn
And I bet them watermelons must be three feet long
Man look at them tomatoes and look at them peas
Well I know if papa was here right now he'd sure be pleased

And papa would sure be proud of his children too
My brother's famous now got his own show on the road
Traveling in customized bus imported from Europe
That boy always did love music and he loves to travel
I got a sister that's got a good job in a beauty shop
Making money making other people look good
Ain't nobody here at a house now but me and mama
And mama she's gettin' weaker and she's gettin' older every day
And she talks softly about joinin' papa in his heavenly home
But that woman sure did love that man
She worked beside papa for forty some odd years
Tryin' to produce a good crop and never could grow a single bean
But I just wish that papa was here right now to see this good crop that we fin'ly got

Man look at that beans and look at that corn
And I bet them watermelons must be three feet long
Man look at them tomatoes and look at them peas
Well I know if papa was here right now he'd sure be pleased
And papa if you can hear me look at them beans

In my hillside rocky garden, "Ballad of the Green Berets" might be appropriate. OR maybe the theme music from "Bambi", OR from Bill Murry's "Groundhog Day."

I vote for the original idea- Hank Williams, Jr. That is the song that came to mind when I read this thread.

Well, we all struggle to keep green in this world and compete with the Concrete Jungles, growing food for us and our livestock, and flowers too.

I favor "ITS NOT EASY BEING GREEN" and especially like it in "Kermit the Frog's"voice. So many of the other offers are real downers. This song lifts our hearts, its gentle and simple. We need that especially these days. Being as how we are being swallowed up by "progress", the more 'green" the better in so many ways.

Counting Crows-They Paved Paradise to Put up a Parking Lot

They paved paradise and put up a parkin' lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique, and a swingin' hot spot
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you got till it's gone
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot

They took all the trees, and put em in a tree museum
And they charged the people a dollar and a half to see them
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you got till it's gone
They paved paradise, and put up a parking lot

Hey farmer, farmer, put away your DDT
I don't care about spots on my apples,
LEAVE me the birds and the bees please
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you got till it's gone
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot
Hey now, they paved paradise to put up a parking lot
Why not?

Listen, late last night, heard the screen door slam
And a big yellow taxi took my girl away
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you got till it's gone
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot
Well, don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you got till it's gone
They paved paradise to put up a parking lot
Well now, they paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

I don't wanna give it
Why you wanna give it
Why you wanna givin it all away
Hey, hey, hey
Now you wanna give it
I should wanna give it
Now you wanna givin it all away

Hey, paved paradise, put up a parking lot
Paved paradise, and put up a parking lot

I think all of these still have copyrights. You'd need permission to use them. And might have to pay something.
