Mary, in order for us to answer your question we need more info as per health and physical ability. As for myself, I'm retired and will NOT use a push mower any more, even on a small space. So, having a bit over 2 acres to mow I use a riding mower and then a self propelled mower for the smaller areas if needed.
Also, if a person is lacking strength in the arms or easily injured, I suggest going for an electrical start on the self propelled. Both of my mowers(as well as the wheeled weed whacker) are from Sears and I like them a lot.
That's just me but I'm in my dotage now. LOL
