Need new fridge
Well, it's time for a new fridge. We'd like one with the freezer on top & fridge on the bottom. We currently have an Amana side by side, and it seems that it's always cycling...and it's noisy.
Don't want to have to spend more than $600 max.
Anyone care to share which fridge you're happy or NOThappy with?
Thanks!

I don't like the side by sides either. Always seems like you can't get as much in them.
I really want a new fridge too but the one I have is still working so of course I will keep using it. I don't like to buy anything like that unless I really need one.
I would Love to have one of those new one's with the freezer on the bottom & the fridge on top. Doesn't need the ice or water in the door or be real fancy.
I guess one of these days, Hmmmm..!

Don't overlook the appliance version of cash for clunkers. It's administered by the States and several States have already maxed out. You can enter a reservation for the rebate even if you don''t buy the same day. Up to $200 for a frig so it seems worth applying to me.

Two of my neighbors have bought brand new fridges with the freezers on the bottom. One freezer is a drawer and the other opens with a door. I have asked them both and both said the freezers and the fridges don't hold as much as traditional ones with the freezer in the top. The way the shelves are made in new fridges they don't seem to hold as many tall bottles either.

I bought one with the freezer on the bottom and disliked it so much that I bought a side by side two years later and sold the first one on Craigslist. I didn't like having to bend over so far to reach things (getting old and the back doesn't bend like it used to!). Plus things would slide over the top of the baskets and end up on the floor of the freezer so I had to take all the baskets out to retrieve them. Such a pain. I like my side by side although the freezer part is pretty narrow - can't get a frozen full size pizza in it lying flat. I would have bought one with a wider freezer but they are all too tall now to fit under my cabinets. Good thing I measured the height before I bought. Who knew that fridges were now taller??

I bought a GE two years ago, wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy, lol. The first one I had, I had it worked on six times in the first four months. It never got good and cold, even turned all the way up, took forever to freeze ice, and it made a constant rattling noise whenever the motor was running. Finally got them to replace it...the new one did the same thing, only not quite as bad. Went through the repair cycle again, but never could get them to replace it with a different model or refund my money, which I really would have preferred.
I keep it turned all the way up all the time, and whereas I used to be able to keep fresh fruits and vegetables, such as salad vegetables, tomatoes, peaches, grapes, etc., for two weeks, now they go bad in 3-4 days. Milk, lunchmeat and cheese goes bad quickly too. The only good thing (which is ridiculous when you think about it) is that it will probably quit altogether and have to be replaced within the next five years and I can get a different one. I'll sure be glad to see the last of this one, but I sure miss the days when appliances worked right and lasted 20-30 years.
I lived in a brand new apartment about 10 years ago, and all the appliances were GE. Those were the loudest things I'd ever heard, especially the dishwasher! I only bought the GE this time because it was the best deal for the money, and I didn't have much to spend. I'll never make that mistake again though.

I will never buy another Frigidaire appliance. The first week I had my Frigidaire stove the oven handle fell off. Recently the heating element (computerized) went out on it and it's only six years old!
My fridge is also a Frigidaire and six years old. I have lost count of how many times we've had to have the compressor replaced, among other things. Repairman told us Frigidaire knew the compressors were bad when they put them in and they were replacing them with the same compressor!
Next time I replace appliances they'll be Whirlpool.

frig
Our Amana died not too long ago...hubby always goes to research consumer reports FIRST thing. After about a week of 3 coolers...thank goodness we have a chest freezer...we got a whirlpool f/Lowes. It is the basic freezer on top no ice maker. It was free delivery & took away old frig. We are happy with it. I think the old one must have been going out for a while b/c everything seems so cold in this one.

We bought all new appliances from sears about 4 years ago . Our refrigerator has the freezer on the bottom . I wanted it that way because of my bad back . I figured I would be in the refrigerator much more than the freezer . Don't have the proper space for a side by side unit . It has an icemaker in the freezer but no water or ice in the door . It has worked flawlessly since new & I think we paid about $700.00 but sears was having a big sale when we bought . It is a Kenmore .

I like Frigidaire personally. A little lower priced than Whirlpool. Kenmore's just get built by the lowest bidder, which is usually one of those 2. I think GE stopped making their appliances also.
Don't forget to call your power company, they may have a recycle/rebate program also.

I have an LG french door with freezer on the bottom. It is about 12 to 16 months old and never had a problem with it. I thought I would like the bottom freezer on the bottom but I really don't. The main thing i dislike is the ice. It is crescent shaped and every time you try to take a drink the ice is in the way. I plan to sell it and get one with a top freezer and no icemaker. I have a lot of ice trays and i don't mind filling them. I bought it on sale at lowes for $1200. The one I want is maytag and it is a little over $600. I forget who makes them since there really is no maytag anymore. My dishwasher is a maytag and I really like it.

We just got a new fridge. We have french doors on top and a freezer drawer on bottom. Love it!
Side by side freezers hold the most, I've found. The trade off is that you can't easily fit wide items in them. My fridge holds tons. The shelves are very adjustable and I've got a lot of in the door storage.
I also love the filtered water inside the fridge. Doesn't take up visual space on the outside. We also have an ice maker on the inside. That is what really reduces freezer room but it is so worth it!

I have a Maytag/Amana with the freezer on the bottom and one door on top and I LOVE IT. It is so much more convenient to have the foods I use all the time at eye level. The freezer is a drawer and I love that. It holds a LOT but then, it's the biggest one they had. WE have had no trobule with ours and since our well water is totally awful, the filter at water dispenser are priceless to us.

I hate out Sears refrigerator. Everything inside is plastic and we have had to replace the crisper drawer slides more than once. I am looking at getting a new fridge too, glad to see this post.

We have an LG with the freezer on the bottom. The door "buckets" are moveable as are the interior shelves in the fridge area and it is easy to clean. Space for tall items can be an issue when the fridge is full. But I like it, even though it is noisy.
If you have pets, it is nice to open the fridge door and not bump into them.

Those who have ice makers, what shape is your ice? That is really the only issue I have with my fridge.

Ours is just like all the ice makers we've had. It's kinda a moon shape.

The ice from our fridge/freezer with in-door water/ice dispenser looks like the picture below. Our fridge is pretty old and we have come really like the in-door ice/water feature, though I wish it were taller so it would accept taller glasses.
