Thief
We have a family of white trash in our area. The father son and daughter will take anything not chained down.
Last week my mother in law called and told us the son and another thief had beaten the back wall open of a garage near our home. And they had stolen a mini bike.
I took off and caught one of them. Him being under age. I was not able to hold him for the deputy. I did however get the bike.
And had a witness to the crime.
The home the garage is located on is owned by a finance company and is vacent. The deputy told us that there could be no charges because it was too hard to track the property owner. I took me a half hour online to locate the bank. I gave the information to the deputy. Still too much work to press charges. His words. " Victimless crime" And the little crooks are free to go and do it again.
The thief neighbor told us to go --------!
Our property now has security lights and cameras just to deal with protecting our selves from these worthless trash people.
This type of help from our tax dollars at work is so thrilling. The sheriff patrols our area maybe one time each 24 hour day. The rest of the time they can be found at the local coffee shop in droves. Or parked several cars at a time shooting the breeze.
I know I am venting. But we have caught these creeps several times and they walk away feeling smug. I really wish for the old days. Catch a thief and make sure they won't do it again.

You just have to believe in Karma. "What comes around, goes around."
Sorry too hear of your troubles. But they WILL get theirs.

Your reporting them repeatedly will go well in court when you have to shoot one of them breaking into your place. Keep your own set of notes on when you report, and to who, and try to have some witness.

You need to go UP the chain of command.
Ask the sheriff if he wants to do anything before you talk with reporter XXX from the local paper.

Ya might find someone u can trust, and find oput when there gone, and break into there place. Let them see how it feels. As many times as im guessing theyve been turned in, Whattia think the law is going to do when they call in.

Game cameras, set with time a date for irrefutable proof! If the sheriff won't do anything, file a case in small claims court yourself. Once the case (with evidence photos) is filed, it is "public record" and can be published in local newspaper without your being accused of slander.
I have heard that a man with a store who had thieves breaking into a storage trailer he had made some mace bombs which were very effective. I couldn't get him to tell me how to do it, though.
There are laws against setting traps but if your local sheriff doesn't enforce the ones against breaking, entering and theft, perhaps he won't enforce the self-protection (well, actually anti-self-protection) laws, either. Maybe if you figure out a perfume smelling claymore bomb he will end up smelling very sweet!

I like the way you think, but it sounds a bit risky.
But the Boss Cooker is probably correct in doubling their security. I'd worry about reprisals too.
We have one problem neighbor in our area that likes to borrow things without asking and then return them broken. I suppose that he's only done that once and my prickliest neighbor likes to repeat the story.
But I have seen the problem neighbor snooping around my lower corner with a flashlight when a surveyor put a series of stakes and markers in the ground, like he was checking to see if I was building something. As if it was any of his business anyway.

Yes what goes around does come around. My problem neighbor just got busted for Growing. He hasn't been caught by the Troopers yet but he hasn't been back either for fear of being caught. While I had nothing to do with him being busted I sure am glad he's gone. He stole , shot at people and generally was just crazy and made life miserable for everyone. But nto anymore. Woo-Hoo!!!!

A friend here called the sherriff after dogs got her rabbits. They reported back to her that she'd never get the $1500 back for her prize rabbits but they were very grateful for the excuse to knock on her neighbor's door, and that they're now in jail for meth manufacture. Hope the next neighbors have better dogs, and better jobs.

We have neighbors like that- one woman had 3 children, then-the oldest boy had 5 boys--his boys are grown, oldest one of those has 4 boys already- We'll never be rid of them. Kids ride the school bus, nastier mouthed bunch you never heard, anyone of them "pick up" any thing they want, have a nice lab at the back of their farm--I'll trade with ANYONE!

If you're positive there is a meth lab back there, a little gasoline, a match and a 911 call to report a fire next door can go a long way to getting them busted.

Target practice in your back yard with a pistol and a shotgun; they'll be a little more selective of which house to hit after seeing that.

Tsyork, wouldn't shooting in your backyard just advertise that you had guns that they could steal? Then they'd be ARMED robbers. I'm not willing to arm anyone. I'll just use them should they come into my home or property. -Catherine

IMO, if they know you have them and know how to use them, then the aren't as apt to hit your place, fearing if they come they will leave in a body bag.

You could put up signs with a siloette of a handgun along with the words
"I don't call 911".
The worse the economy gets, I fear the more these types of people will be crawling out of the woodwork.

They know that we are armed. We are installing cameras aimed at their house from four directions. As well as several positions around my property. Sooner or later they will step in something and it won't wash off. Everybody in the area knows of the family and is watching them.
I just want the cops to do what they are paid to do. Protecting a punks rights is not getting it done.
I would love to catch them on my property. Florida has a castle law. One foot on my property and they could very well never walk away from it.

I agree with going up the chain of the command and mentioning that if something isn't done you will be sure to let the papers know about the "victimless crime" that goes unpunished.

There has to be a reporter who loves to write articles about how the little guy was wronged. Look at the lifestyle or local section of the largest nearby city's newspaper. It's worth the cost of the paper. You could also look online for their paper.
I'd bet that things will change if you go to the media. You might also call the bank and let them know. They may ask to file charges.
