Next time ask for unsalted fries. I have seen people do that at McD's. They put them on a different surface, so no salt gets on them while they scoop them into the little red box.

Or, you could just not go there. Most all their food is oversalted, not just the fries.

After ordering them unsalted, you can then get a little packet of salt and put the correct amount on them. I do this all of the time because I have never liked things that were really salty.

My oldest worked at McD's after high school, according to him you need to be more concerned about the salt on the burgers, the fries are barely salted compared to the meat.

After seeing some 'dirty dining' shows on TV we DON'T eat out anymore

Do you have a wendy's around? I don't think they even salt at all anymore. You do it yourself (fries, that is)

You can ask for your McD fries with no salt...may take a bit longer to get them, but you should get FRESHLY fried. Same with the burgers. You CAN ask for them without salt. If it's not too busy, they'll likely do it for you. I know our local one does.

A little trick for the freshest fries........

ALWAYS ask for unsalted fries. They generally do not have them on hand so they have to fry up a fresh batch for you. Then salt them as you please.

You got that right, I nearly always have to add more salt on fries, fries are like popcorn, can't have them without SALT, even if it just "Sea Salt" which I have been switching to.

i agree, buy unsalted and add your own..

because i don't use much salt at home most of my cooking is unsalted and the salt is easily added..some things such as bread i have to put some salt in..but if it can be added, like stir fry or whatever..i just leave it out of the cooked product.

hubby said this morning..i'm eating the food without adding salt..so hey..it helps him too if he just skips it (generally he adds a lot)

Get a free glass of water, and you can wash them in your glass. If you are serious about reduceing your salt intake, you won't go in any fast food places, and you'd have to be picky as all git out in a regular resturant. About 90 percent of the cold cereal is too salty for your diet. Just look at the sodium listed on every item you buy in a store. I think they dump salt into everything to make it weigh more. While your looking check the sugar in most everything. Who never knew???

Cutting the salt with your fries way back is great, but look at canned soups for example. Some have 760 mg of sodium in 1 can. Why don't you watch the labels of foods you eat and get the lowest sodium foods you can find, quit eating out and start a garden. Start jogging and weight training, it's great for your health. Good luck, Chris

Fordy,

Forget about the fries...they are small pototes.

Medium fries contain about 270 milligrams of soduim.
A quarter pounder with cheese contains 1190 miligrams of sodium.
A regular cheeseburger contains 750 miligrams of sodium.
A regular hamburger contains 540 miligrams of sodium.

How about some chicken then...

The classic grilled chicken sandwich has 1190 miligrams of sodium, just like the quarter pounder.
The grilled chicken ranch sandwich has 1440 miligrams of sodium.

What about the salads then...

The bacon ranch salad with grilled chicken clocks in at 1010 miligrams of sodium.
Only the premium southwest salad without chicken has fewer miligrams of soduim than a medium fry.
Even a plain jane side salad with any kind of dressing has more sodium than a medium french fry.

Like I said, your fries are a drop in the bucket and not really even worth worrying about if you are going to McDonalds.

And if I take it out to my car and eat it where no one else can see me it has no calories at all.

If your concerned about your diet it's best not to eat where a clown tells you to. The clown and cartoon characters should let you know your not the target audience.
