What do I need to bring to a Jack & Jill?
I have never gone to a Jack & Jill for someones upcoming wedding, I have to be at one next week. Do I need to bring anything such as a present or money? Also, what is the dress code at these functions usually? Thanks for your help, Chris

I have no idea about the gifts, but I'd never heard of this kind of party either so I did some surfing. According to emilypost.com, it is a co-ed shower where both the bride and groom and their friends are invited rather than the bridal shower where it's just the bride and her friends.

I swear I had no idea that men were being forced to go to showers! Luckily I never had to attend one.

Usually they are his and hers affairs to avoid the vulgarity. It can go the other way though.

When I saw the thread title I, too, was thinking grocery store.
What a great way to get the wedding attendants together if they have never met before.

I can't wait to hear what a Jack and Jill is and what it has to do with a wedding. New one on me.

So exactly what is a Jack & Jill?
If it is a shower then I would suggest an umbrella...
Pail of water sounds about right too.

It is a girl through work, not my boss. My boss gave me the ticket, so I'll have to wait and ask her as I've never been to one of these. I hope it's nothing dirty or a rude party. Thanks for all your input. Chris

I tried to google it after you made the post, but I couldn't get in because the website was overloaded.
Seriously... this is a good link to answer your questions:

When in doubt dress casual but nice. Like you might for a lunch date. With uncertainty of gift I would take a couple of gift cards. One for a decent restaurant and one for someplace like Target or somewhere with multiple shopping options.

Depends on the couple involved Chris. Generally they're reasonably tame affairs, sometimes some games similar to what you get at some wedding receptions now. I've known the odd one to turn somewhat debauched but it isn't the norm. Have heard of his-and-hers strippers but that would REALLY be the exception. Casual dress is fine. Cash or some sort of housewarming type gifty is fairly normal, I wouldn't get too involved in it though. Gifts often turn out more or less optional, maybe take an unsealed card, and a gift certificate for a restaurant or something. Mostly in this part of Ontario it's an excuse to drink large amounts of beer and rye with friends and family.

Around here we call those "couples showers". It just means the groom is equally involved in the shower as the wife.
Usually at a "couples shower", the gifts tend more towards gifts that they can both use... grill items, lawn chairs, coolers... in addition to the traditional items given at a shower. (although lingere is generally not given at these, since men were present)
Dress code at these is usually a bit more casual than a regular bride's-only shower. If in doubt, give a call to the person who's throwing the shower.
