Anybody use DMSO for pain?
I'm thinking about using this on 2 of my fingers that have been very painful since Nov. I injured them trying to treat my horses wounded eye and fell and my hand got twisted in the halter. Anyway..I should have gone to the Dr. right away but didn't go until a month later. He said one finger is a contusion (big lump) and the other finger is probably fractured (can not straighten and always swollen) at the knuckle but it's too late to do anything about it except physical therapy. I'm not doing that.
So I was reading up on DMSO and thought it might help. I guess I'm afraid to try it because it's on my fingers that are always touching "stuff". Of course it's my right hand UGH.
Any thoughts or experience would be helpful! sorry

I've used it on muscles in my left leg, and around the knee. You can cut it 50/50 with water.
It worked about as well as say, Icy Hot, but you can't use it more than 3 days in a row, as it makes your skin tender.
I've had a problem with my knee running back several years. The best thing I've taken for it is Flax seed, and lignuns. I found this at the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville. I've been taking it about 2-3 weeks and my knee and shoulder are better!
Good luck with the fingers.

Uh, don't know about a website. Got my information from a guy who worked at the race tracks. He claimed you could cure a stomach ulcer by drinking it, but I don't have any reason to try that.

Weird, I use DMSO for Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) in molecular biological research. PCR is used to make more of a particular section of DNA and DMSO is used to optomize difficult to amplify regions. I never thought about it as an anti-inflammatory. I know why it works with PCR- I wonder how it works for RA...

Be aware that DMSO is an industrial solvent. I do believe that it has been approved for veterinary use as an anti-inflammatory. I am not aware of it being approved for human use. It may be; I just haven't heard about it. As an industrial solvent ANYTHING that is on your skin will be dissolved and taken into your blood stream with the DMSO.
I used to run a western shop, and we carried it in the store. Many people would buy it for their horses at their vet's suggestion, and quite a few bought it for themselves. We were very careful to tell them at the time of purchase that it was NOT approved for what they were wanting to use it for, but once they bought it, it was up to them.
I'm still not completely convinced that it is safe for animals, and there is no way I would ever use it on myself or any of my family.

Used it once, long ago, on my knee & got a terrible Staph infection in the knee joint which went systemic(in the blood stream). It goes deep down into the tissues & will carry any organisims(germs) that are on the skin down with it. So, suggest you do a surgical scrub first, then wrap with plastic wrap. Then be real careful of exposure to germs. It does work, especially in combination with a medication that you need to get deep down into the tissues. Just watch for signs & symptoms of infection.

Yes, I used it. We used it on the horses (Standardbred racehorses). Used the pure stuff, it is crystallized at room temperature. It is what we called a driver, anything on the skin would be driven in. It drives in say anything used for swelling, we used it mostly on legs, hocks ect. I used in my shoulder. It does work. The taste in you mouth will be nasty, as it does go into your system. It was also for sale at health food stores, but I don't know anymore, this was in the late 70's and 80's.

I used it years ago for bursitis in my knee. It gave temporary relief but the danger of contact with an industrial solvent out weighed the benefits. To be honest I would not recommend it to anyone.

It is just not approved in THIS country it is however approved the world over for human use. Sure it absorbs quickly into the skin that is what is good about it. It gets right into where the pain is coming from. And it is only sold in America as a Solvent, because it is not fda approved and many people know about the fda.
So to sell it in America, they HAD to say use it as a solvent only.

I take Celadron for my RA symptoms. It works well.
Can you get the physical therapy stretches from the therapist? If so you can probably do them at home without going to the clinic.

Minelson, I remember using it on my own bruised wrist years ago after getting the backlash from a chain lead shank. I was working with Saddlebreds and we had it around for them. It worked fine and very quickly soothed the area, but you can taste that oily taste almost immediately as it works through your system, and it's not pleasant. Also, I covered the bruise with a wrap... and don't recommend that at all!!! My wrist swole up and had the texture of a prune for a day or so. littlesheeps in NM
