Whats your thoughts on these new type roofing nails

They got a nail that looks like a brad with a plastic 1in or so dia cap at the head. Looks like a minature umbrella. Are they any good. Did u have to drill the tin to use them? The tin nowadays dont amount to nothing, I guess the nails to hold them shouldnt anymore either.

That sounds like the kind of nail that holds styrofoam on walls.

That is what they used for on my house when it was built ten years ago. To hold the foam before the stucco was applied.

That is what was used to hold the roofing paper in place on daughter's and SIL's new home.

The paper was similar to house wrap in appearance, only blue. EXTREMELY tough. Very slick when any dew was present. Can't remember the name, a new material that I recall as being produced by DuPont.

Hey, found it: http://www2.dupont.com/Tyvek_Weather...roofliner.html

Sorry, didn't mean to steal the thread.

These what you mean?

http://www.bestmaterials.com/detail.aspx?ID=8967

They are only to be used on underlayments, etc. Not ment to be used on finished roof materials.

Look for the blue labeled boxes at Home depot, those are the roofing nails. Like everyone else said the plastic cap nails are for the felt underlayment.

Maybe someone got things mixed up, I've used nails that have a soft rubber gasket on them for both metal roofing and for fiberglass for a greenhouse. The gasket is the same size as the head of the nail.
