I was headed that way once, then I found myself on Hiway 17 south and stopped at Murrell's Inlet. For some reason I decided not to go to Chicago.

.........sorry, I know that's not the answer you were looking for.

If you belong to AAA travel club; They will send you a complete , very detailed route to anywhere you want to go from anywhere you are leaving from. Complete maps highlighted with all the info you will ever need for your trip including gas stations, rest stops, places to eat, motels, even where hospitals are in each town if you are in need of one, etc. and you can't get lost using them. If you don't belong to AAA find someone who is a member and ask them to get it for you. It takes about a week to get it in the mail. You won't be sorry and it is well worth your time to ask.

be sure to get a burger and fries at the 'Park and Blow' before you get there. I wonder if the 'Gay Dolphin' is still there,, it has lots of cool treasure hunters gold ect.
Funny names, party town for sure!

If I were plotting a course of travel from Myrtle Beach to Chicago I would use the following route IF I were wanting to get there instead of see the sights and the sites of various things.

From Myrtle Beach take US 501 to I-20 just outside of Florence.

Take I-20 west to Columbia where you then pick up northbound I-77.

Take I-77 to Cleveland, Ohio and pick up the toll road I-90 which turns into I-80/90 and that will take you directly into Chicago. Rather a long distance so have plenty of toll money at the ready. You should be able to access the rates on line to figure exact cost.

Best wishes for a safe trip. Used to work and go to school in Chicago---say hello to Chi town for me.

If you are there around St. Patrick's Day the dyeing of the Chicago River is a must see experience if you can make it at all.

You talking about the "Park and Blow" on 378 before you get to Conway?? I guess the Gay Dolphin is still there---it was a few months ago. I know they still got up a billboard sign before you get to Myrtle Beach.

Wendy is pretty close on the directions, but 501 does not go into Florence-----you would follow 501 to Marion then 76 to Florence, Then I would get on I-95 so I did not have to go through the "Town" of Florence then get off I-95 onto I-20 to Columbia.

Yep, PD-Riverman's got it! That, and then pick up like Wendy in Kansas said will get you there. Stay away from I-40, it's closed near the Tenn.-NC line (rock slide).
Hey, PD-Riverman, don't know how I've missed you on here. I grew up "coon hunting" the Pee Dee river swamps from hwy. 378 to Carvers Bay. Still have two sisters who live in that area.

Better to go from 77 North directly on to 80 West just south of Cleveland - skip the Cleveland urban traffic.

Directions above are right. But, I'd take 501 N till it turns into 38 and that takes you right to I95S which runs into I20 and you'll miss most of the traffic. The 501/38 route was recently rebuilt in this area and it may not look like a direct route on older maps.

I would follow this way until WV. At Charleston I would take I-64 west to I-65 north into Chicago.

Interstate 40 (I-40) is a major west–east Interstate Highway in the United States. Its western terminus is at Interstate 15 in Barstow, California; its eastern terminus is at a concurrency of U.S. Route 117 and North Carolina Highway 132 in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Turning LEFT at the ocean takes you North, which is AWAY from Myrtle Beach
