Help! I need someone in Gallia County OHIO today!!!

My DBF ("D" isn't "dear" in this case!) forgot to turn in his CAUV paperwork for his land in Gallia County. It is DUE BY Monday. Tomorrow. He lives 4 hours away. We can drive down today and put it in the courthouse drop box, if there is such a thing. Does anyone know?????

His only other option is to drive down and be there by 7:30 a.m. in the morning and hand it to them, but that means he'll miss a day of work...which isn't a good thing to do. He'd much rather figure a way to get it there today.

Any ideas?????? Thanks!

If you live near a major airport, there may be a postal facility. Usually they are not advertised to the public. Those are generally open 24/7. I sent a next day express envelope from the Philadelphia airport on a Saturday evening. It was delivered on Monday.

I doubt if the court house will have a drop. You could call the non-emergency number of the police department and ask.

You might drive down today and mail the papers at the local post office. Generally mail that's addressed to a location the post office delivers to is not sent to a center for consolidation. that means it should be delivered on Monday providing there's an early morning pickup posted on the box.

If it's a rural county, you might be able to look up the home telephone numbers and call the clerk or assessor and deliver the papers to them today at their home. Good luck.

Yeah, it's a rural county. So rural that I'm not sure the website is correct. I've seen two different names now for the auditor. This is an appalachian area of southern Ohio.

Police department was a good idea. I tried there. They informed me that there was not a drop box. The guy was really nice and called the sheriff's department (dunno why?!) to see if someone there could drop it off on Monday if I got it to them today. They couldn't. But at least he tried.

I almost said I'd pay someone (off-duty, of course!) $100 to deliver it on Monday morning if I got it to them today, but that felt like bribery and I wasn't sure if that would be construed as such, so I didn't.

Gosh....I wish I knew someone in Galliopolis!!!!!! I've got half a notion to drive down there and see if there are any stores or anything open within walking distance of the courthouse, and offer the sales clerk a "bribe" to make a delivery in the morning.

I tried the UPS overnight AIR, too, but they don't make deliveries on Mondays unless it is in by Saturday. Not sure how that is overnight.... but I guess Sundays don't count.

Sigh. I'm frustrated, too, because it isn't MY mistake, but I'm always the clean-up crew.....

Thanks for listening.....

Look up the city on Facebook and see if you can send someone a message through there - they might be able to help! Are you FB savy??

ETA, there are 188 members for Galliopolis, Oh.....

Here's a couple people's names.....

If the Post Office in Galliopolis has a lobby where folks get their mail from a rented p o box it may be open 24/7. A lot of them are and most have a letter drop in the lobby with a separate slot for local mail. If you get it there today it should be delivered tomorrow.

I checked out facebook, but really don't trust someone I'd "pick up" on there.

From what I could find out from the police department, the post office is locked tight on Sundays.

I ended up paying someone here locally the equivalent of a year's worth of taxes to be on the road at 3:30 a.m. and hand deliver it at 7:30 a.m. to them. It is worth it because it will save 3 years of recoupment taxes. Next year, if DBF forgets again.....

I'm sure that if we called them tomorrow and asked, we'd probably find out that if we overnighted it on Monday and got it there on Tuesday, they'd probably still accept it.....but you never know! Better safe than sorry.

And this is the guy that I think will be my homesteading partner?!??!?!

I know here in our county as long as it is postmarked on the proper date it is accepted on that date. It doesn't actually have to be in the auditor's hands on that date.

I can't help you from MN and this late, but I can answer this question of yours.

Court House is a county thing.

Sherriff Dept is a county thing.

Police Dept is a town or city thing.

You kinda called the wrong people - Police help with town things.

Sherriff would be associated with the court house _much_ more, and helps with county things, and stuff that goes on in the courthouse.

It was real good of the police folk to call over to the county sherriff & check for you.

Hope you get a solution to the problem that causes the least problems. Ah, I see you came up with something....

Am I the only one wondering why he doesn't take Monday off work and drive it up there himself?

I wonder if that might have been cheaper than the equivalent of a years worth of taxes?

Ok...all handled.

Hired someone to go there. I called him three times over the course of the night to make sure he was OK and finding the place. He got there at 6:45 in the morning and hand-delivered it. They laughed and said it could have been delivered any time today and would have been fine. (But if we would have waited, that might not have been the case and it would have been too late).

DBF has a job where they don't look too favorably on people not coming in, even if sick or whatever. If the city is closed to traffic because of a snow emergency or whatever, he is expected to walk to work. He sat in the emergency room at the hospital with a kidney stone and still had his laptop doing work. Grrrrr. I keep telling him nothing is that important, but I guess guys seem to look at their work differently. When I had back surgery, he made me reschedule it so it didn't interfer with a meeting where he couldn't have his cell phone turned on (in case the hospital called him). But I digress.....

After I hired the guy to go down there, I realized I had screwed up! I should have driven down myself, collected the $200 from DBF, and still been back to work by noon. Then I could have used the $200 to hire this same guy to work on my house!!!!! Duh.

Oh well. This gives me "Remember the time YOU screwed up..." ammunition if I ever need it. Thanks for all the support!
