need backround check........

We have posted some open intern positions and have had a couple apply - what is the quickest and best route to go on backround checks? The Ky State Police sent me a form and it's $20 per person. Anyone know of any online places to go - maybe soneone has used one and has experience? They mostly seem like scams and rip offs!!! TIA

In WI, one used to be able to log on to some portion of the State website & get minor violations - civil court issues, perhaps?

But the official State background check does cost - and will contain the real information you want - convictions, serious crimes, etc. I am not sure, there may be some limitations if the person was convicted of a crime in another state - whether or not that info will show up on your State's check.

For peace of mind, I would definitely get name, d.o.b., ssn, and any other names used - be it maiden or aliases, and the official state background check. Especially if this intern is going to be around your home, family, money, or possessions. (can you take the form & payment to a local cop shop for quicker processing?)

And always remember, just because they don't have a record, doesn't mean they are honest/safe...they maybe just haven't been caught yet.

http://www.talentwise.com/ They do background checks, drug testing, DOT solutions, driving records, assessments, verifications, onboarding, credit checks, international searches, applicant tracking system integrations, and more. I have been interviewed with them, dunno how much they charge though. Mostly bigger companies I have seen them used by.

If KY does it do they check nationwide or just for offenses in KY?

If I had a record in IL, I wouldn't put in that I lived in IL in case you looked there. I would find someone who does it nationwide.

Federal check- $35, I have to have it done every year since I work with kids. I go into my local police station and get fingerprinted and they send send it in, then the info goes to my employer.
Its worth the extra $15.

Sometimes I can have it done at "copy shops", not big box office type, but the little town, does everything shop.

Find a pawn shop that sells guns and ask who they use. They check by ssn so it has to be nation wide. Good luck. Sam

I'd go through the KY State Police. $20 is an awfully good deal. I had to have a background check to get my nursing license. It cost me $50 about six years ago.

Here some free Ky databases that are mostly inmate information. You can find a lot of past inmate information by using a google search and going directly to the county. Example bell county ky detention inmate
Notice the box that you click for past inmates. http://www.bellcountydetention.com/Bell_inmatelist.html

The pawn shops probably only check the Brady disqualification files. Respondents in protection (restraining) orders and probationers would be some of the people on that list. Another place you can start is by looking at what are called "ConWeb" sites on the internet. These are state managed sites that will list people that are on probation and registered sex or violent offenders. These sites should be free. They don't list complete criminal histories but will tell you what the person is on probation for or the level of offender they are. It's a place to start.

If the KY State Police will do a federal criminal background search for $20 and thats all you wanted then that sounds like a deal to me, unless you were doing 100 searches would it pay to use another company.
