Looking for "Layout for a Harvest Room"
I am looking for a bulletin put out a long time ago by Ed and Carolyn Robinson in conjunction with John H. Whitney R.A. -- a registered Architect. It's either called "The Harvest Room" or "Layout for a Harvest Room"-- put out by the County Store or Gaden Way Publishing.
This layout is out of print and is discussed in the Have More Plan, but the bulletin/portfolio of the layout is much larger and done in much more detail compared to what they provide in the Have More Plan.
Thank you in advance for anything that may lead me to this layout
Jim Albert.

I found "Plan for a "Harvest Room": Designs by John H. Whitney" by Carolyn Robinson, printed in 1945, with an ASIN number of B0007FIU1O listed on Amazon, but can't find an actual copy for sale anywhere. You might check libraries or antique book stores. That's all the info I could find on it, sorry.
Added: I did take this picture from Mother Earth News, clicked on it and then when it opened in another window clicked on it again, enlarging it both times. Then I saved it to "My Pictures" on my computer, and when I pull it up through there I can enlarge it several more times. It's still not a fabulous view and without a lot of measurements, but it beats the tiny little drawing on the MEN page. http://www.motherearthnews.com/multi....aspx?id=63544

Jim,
That drawing seems to be included in the Robinson's book, "The Have-More Plan," which is readily available a Amazon (new and used) and at Abe Books (used.)
Best of luck

Thanks so far, but (except for Callie) it's still not what I am looking for. I appreciate your efforts to research this. I have a copy of the "Have More Plan" and have read it from front to back. I have the tiny image from the book too. I've even called MEN and they claim that the little photo is all they have. I've even gone on Amazon and found that the larger layout (with booklet) I am seeking is listed, but with nothing actually available.
My primary hope from posting it here is to find someone that actually has a copy of it that I can pruchase from or get a duplicate of it. I am willing to pay $50.00 for the bulletin I am seeking so long as it is in good condition or (for a copy I will pay for the copies and a reasonable profit). I already have the little photo and explanation in the Have More Plan---I am seeking the shorter bulletin they put out through their Country Store that was only about the Harvest Room and it has a very large and detailed diagram of the harvest room, not the cute little un-useable photo in the Have More Plan.
Thanks again though for all of your efforts thus far, I am humbled by your willingness to look this up as you have---you are all seeing the same things I have seen. God bless all of you and hopefully we can find it somewhere.

Callie,
the diagram you found on MEN is a floor plan for a small house with the Harvest Kitchen not a harvest room. A harvest room is next to but separate from the kitchen. It is where all of the processing takes place (ie. milk cooler, honey extractor, canning and canning equip, dehydrating etc.) with this room, the kitchen is for day to day cooking. They actually have another bulletin titled "Layout for a Productive Homestead" and included in with it is a 40 page explantion of why things are put where they put them---both the house and the grounds. Inside the bulletin is a foldout layout that is about the size of the top of a bridge table. On this layout, which I own, is a floor plan for the house and it's there where they show the harvest room separate from the kitchen. Kind of like the old summer kitchens from the old farmhouses, except the harvest room is still connected to the house. The problem is that in the 40 page explanation they stop short of explaining the harvest room in complete detail and forced you to purchase a seperate bulletin specifically for the harvest room. These guys were smart---they knew how to drag you along and continue to entice you to buy more of their publications. Anyway, I've been looped into wanting this harvest room bulletin so here I am longing for it and so far to no avail. That Amazon ad was like a big tease. it was like----Here I am!!! woops, Nope not really

Sorry I wasn't more help Jimmy! I know how you feel, searching for an elusive book (booklet, pamphlet, etc.). I've done it many times myself. I did find another couple of references to the "Have More Plan Reference Library" published by Garden Way Publishing Company, which is apparently where they printed tons and tons of booklets and pamphlets by Ed and Carolyn Robinson. Just thought I'd mention it in case it gives you a little more to go on while searching.
Sounds like you're right, they were very savvy about getting every penny possible from their knowledge, lol, but then isn't that what we all want, to find a way to make enough money to work full-time on our land without having a "regular" job? They were apparently ages ahead of their time, but it sure makes it hard on people who want to find their printings now. Good luck, sure hope you find it!

I appreciate you trying Callie, at least I know I am not the only one out there---it helps me to laugh about it more.
Wow, that's great you found several publications put out by Garden Way. So which publications did you find. As I said earlier, I am the proud, proud owner of their bulletin Titled "Layout for a Productive Homestead".
I found out a month ago that Storey actually bought out Garden Way and they are re-publishing several of the bulletins from Garden Way--unfortunately they don't have the Harvest Room Layout-----I already called to check.

I'm so sorry, but I didn't save those links since they weren't what you were looking for! I tried to go back and find them again, but can't remember what search string I used, lol, doh! (I used quite a few while searching)
I do remember seeing one book listed at a library somewhere, and it referred to it as part of the Have More Plan Reference Library, and it listed the publisher as Garden Way Publishing Company. I think it was one of the books though, not a bulletin, maybe one of the "Starting Right With..." books.
Sorry I can't be more help, but you've definitely piqued my interest regarding the separate harvest room, lol, so I'll still be looking. Who knows, I may stumble across it by pure accident!
P.S. I don't think I ever said, but welcome to HT!

Thanks for the nice welcome Callie. I'll see if I can trace your steps. If I ever find it I'll let you know.
