Question want warming shelf for wood stove

I'd like to have a warming shelf on my wood stove. I like the cabin on the cool side, but that's usually too cool for bread to rise.

A warming shelf that would somehow attach to the stove pipe or behind the stove would be great. Or something - anything - that would keep the dough warm, but not too hot.

Please keep in mind that none of us are what you could call handy. So it has to be simple.

We put a large flat slab of stone over our stove. This stores heat and tempers the stove so things can be set on it to dry. Works well.

Cheers

Thanks, Walter! At first I wondered where I'd get a slab of stone, then remembered I have some leftover paving stones. I should have thought of those.

Btw - Walter is a really nice, old-fashioned name. My dh is a Walter, also the dh of a good friend. We've gotten into the habit of referring to our respective husbands as "my Walter."

Don't know how much bread you are talking, but mom use to turn a turkey pan upside down on top of her wood stove to warm stuff. She would sometimes just put bread on a stool behind the stove.

My warming oven is actually too hot to raise bread, so I place it on the floor beside the oven side, out of the way of foot traffic, and it works really well that way. Another option might be to place a chair beside the oven side, and put your rising dough there.
