Easy formula to figure cinder blocks per sq yd?

Is there some simple formula or rule of thumb on how many cinder blocks you need to build a sq yd of wall/area? I have no idea how many I need to collect to build my imagined goat shed/poultry house

Never figured it by the "square yd", though I guess one could.

I figure the wall length and multiply by 3/4 for the number of block per course.

Example: Your building is a rectangle 12' x 16'. The perimeter is 12+16+12+16 =56' 56' x3/4= 42 block per course.

A course is 8" high, so you'd need to know the height of the wall.

Say you want a foundation wall 48" high, and you're gonna run wood from there. 48/8= 6 courses of block

6 x 42 =252 block.......not allowing for any openings, nor any waste

That's a good way to figure it. Thanks!

Side face is roughly 8 inches by 16 inches yield 128 square inches, so a square yard of 1296 divided by 128 = 10.13 when slightly rounded.

Or the 128 divided by a square foot of 144 yields .8888 of square foot coverage per block.

Okay, so about 10 blocks to the sq yd. That's another general rule of thumb to keep in my head. Good!

The way I learned it was multiply perimeter by height. There are 1.125 CMUs/sf, so multiply the sf to get the # of blocks. To get square yards just divide by 9.

I always figure a block per sq foot, might add or subtract 10% here and there due to the number of windows and doors.
WxH add up the total run of the walls combined = number of blocks.
Just like I figure 7 bricks per SQ foot.
