Self-sufficient by Thanksgiving?

We are setting ourselves a challenge to be self-sufficient

by Thanksgiving 2010... and on a limited budget.

Very interesting and I bookmarked your blog to keep track of your progress. We have an old farmstead that hasnt been updated since 1947 ourselves and boy are we on a fast learning curve.

Looking good ! Bookmarked for future reading.
Interesting stories. I was holed up for a couple years in a mountain cabin along a stream in a similar lifestyle change. Loved it, best years ever.
Flying Squirrel got in one night while I was sleeping, woke up to all hell breaking loose as the dog took up the chase, lasted about 1/2 hour before it suddenly became quiet again, the dog prevailed.
Good luck !

Good luck on your endeavor, I am pushing for 50% of the food we eat and am having a hard time but getting there. You are brave individuals.

I've seen washing machines from the 1800s that are like that. A closed barrel, with a wooden "plunger" that had paddles on the bottom. up anddown, and twirl the plunger. I have liked the bicycle powered agitator machines I've seen.

Good luck with your efforts. Interesting blog.

I don't know if self sufficient and limited budget are really compatible...

I went as self sufficient as possible when I quit the rat race (at least what I would call the rat race... most of you would think I was a slacker calling what I did, and how much time I did it each year, the rat race) on no budget...

Good luck, and we'll be keeping up with ya'll's progress!!!

Yes, good luck on your venture. I hope to be there soon myself. My wife will soon be quitting her job and we will be down to one part-time paycheck. We're planning on trying to be as self sufficient as possible. Our place is paid for, we have big garden spots, and places to raise our own animals if necessary. But plan on utilizing more free wild meats if possible. In hopes of living completely off the grid also.
