Smile Etsy stores

For any one who has an Etsy store, how profitable is it?
Do you use the store and what you make as a viable part of your income or is it just a way to be able to do crafts and sell them to break even.

thanks
Carol

Etsy can be quite profitable, depending on a) your product and b) how you promote your store.

They have a 'featured seller' section on the main page and The Storque sometimes has articles about successful sellers.

I've had a shop for a couple of years and have done only modest business, which I attribute to my own apathy. But I've seen other sellers who have an incredible amount of sales, daily!

I like it, especially compared to ebay....I dropped ebay after the last round of changes and mostly haven't regretted it.
Like others have said, you get out of it what you put into it....it's been decent for me, and might be better if I "fluffed" more.

I'm on Etsy and haven't sold a thing. But I don't really spend anytime promoting it, nor would I really know how.

Could you put a link to your etsy store on your blog?
I went looking, but didn't see a link.....

I didn't want to do that because if they've made it to my blog, they could just as easily order from there following my directions of emailing me. It costs to advertise each item on Etsy, so I really advertised 1 item each there to direct people to the blog.

If you're a member on other discussion boards, you could put a link to your shop or blog in your signature, like some here do.

Posting pictures of your work on sites like Flickr (image sharing) is a way to promote your products. Don't forget to add tag words that will be picked up by searches.

LOL, here's an eHow about how to promote your Etsy shop:

Good luck!

I've noticed that most of the people that buy on etsy also sell on etsy.

I have an etsy shop too. As others have said, I would sell a lot more if I listed a lot more often.

Thanks! I just sent you a note on etsy, but you don't have to answer it. I was just wondering who you were here...now I know!

I went looking for them on-line after I asked. A catalog should be on its way to my house soon!
