What kind of meat grinder do you use to make your own sausages?

I want to start doing some links and not just the hand patties I have been doing.

What do you use to make them? There seem to be a million different machines online.

I use a hand crank, I think it's a #10, meat grinder. I have sausage stuffing tubes for it and also have a sausage stuffer. What are you using to grind your bulk sausage now?

I bought a 1hp Weston with #22 head recently to work up pork and beef at home. First hog we ran thru it, took about 4 hours ( running the sausage 3 times to get the grind we wanted ) for about 150lbs of sausage. Came with the stuffing head and all, but I haven't tried it out yet.

Bought it here:

I was getting it already ground with my half pigs and just hand forming it into patties.

I would like to start grinding and making my own.

How many pounds do you plan on grinding? Larger and with a motor is usually better for a large quantity at once. Hard part is getting the right cuts and fat ratio if you're not butchering yourself.

200# a year or a little more you can get away with a No.22 grinder 3/4 horse or 1 horse either one, they will come with the stuffing tubes and stuffing spacer. You will need to get a 3/16 plate as it will come with a 1/4 for the small size and you will want to grind with a smaller one only once. The only thing we grind twice is our Bologna and HotDogs. You can but callogen(artifisall) from LEM. they have a web site and i use them for Salami Caseings or go to local locker plant or meat shop and but a hank of natural brat caseings these should be around 27.00 to 31.00$ for tghe whole hank and you can do about 125# of sausage

I just got my meat grinder and love it. Also comes with a tomato strainer (seperates skin/seeds from pulp for sauce making). Here is the link:
http://www.cookware.com/Weston-82-0102-W-WEN1059.html

The above company cookware.com has 4 pages of meat grinders to choose from PLUS there is free shipping for anything over $60.
It comes with the sausage making items but the description on site does not say that.

#32 hand crank. We did about 30 lbs last weekend. Twice through the grinding plates, once through the stuffer, so I put over 80 lbs through it in two days.

I use the grinder/sausage stuffer attachment for my kitchen aid stand mixer. It does a really nice job.

I use a Torrey M12 grinder for grinding meats. A little pricey but more of a commercial type machine and it puts most similar grinders to shame. I load the pan up with about 20 - 25 pounds of meat and it will grind it all up in less then 5 minutes.

Then I use a manual sausage stuffer for making links or for sausage tubes. I like a manual over electric as I can better control the amount of sausage coming out when stuffing links. I can use a stuffing tubes on my grinder as well but I lack the control I get with manual stuffers.

Contact Allied Kenco and request a cataloge. They carry an assortment of grinders, stuffers, tenderizers, and all kinds of butchering equipment as well as spices and seasonings.
