pants stretcher?

I vaguely recall waistline stretchers from when I was a girl in the 1950's. Not those wire frames to reshape the legs of wool men's pants. I've shape-changed enough that my slacks with a regular waistband are uncomfortable. Already moved the buttons, tried a rubberband extension, but front zippers then undo. Who else remembers these, how they worked, where I might find one, how I might make a substitute? Otherwise a dozen pairs of nice slacks from my school-teacher days are leaving just when I could use them again. Also a problem is I've tried bigger sizes at the store, which eases the waist issue, but they are big or baggy everywhere. Thanks! Sue

I think Heartland America carries them, but I make no representations as to quality!

When I have to stretch something, I wash it, then pull it out as much as I can and clothes pin it to the line - all stretched out. I have to use 12 or more pins to hold it tight but it works. I try to go back before it is dry and take down the pants/shirt whatever I am stretching, change the position and stretch it out and pin it up again. Usually works for me. That way, I can stretch only the part I want and not the rest of the garment. For me I try to stretch the waist band OR the length of a shirt or sweater. Good luck

Just be sure that the fabric is one that can be "stretched". I have some poly/rayon dress slacks and believe me......they don't stretch. I solved the problem years ago by buying slacks that have a regular waist in the front and back, but have elastic inserts on the sides.

I don't remember the type waistline stretcher you are referring to but I have resigned myself to wearing "elastic" waist jeans (no snap/button or zipper) as my waistline will never return to previous slenderness. I'm all for being comfortable in my clothes. I've found JMS (JustMySize) jeans at WM that aren't baggy. They are stretch denim, sort of fit like leggings but not as tight. These jeans have only front pockets and the elastic is only in the back waistband. JMS are my current favorite...I hope you find the waistband expander or some pants that you can comfortably wear.

Thanks, all. I have jeans that I'm comfy enough in; I found a brand that aren't baggy elsewhere and stop just below the waist. But not that far as to be immodest What I'm hoping to stretch are some pretty nice dress slacks I've had anyway 6 years, to wear for substitute teaching. My weight hasn't changed, just my shape. And REALLY don't like anything snug, especially in winter, when my skin feels dry & irritates easily. Sue

Sue, have you tried slitting the very back of the waist band? You could add elastic (or to the sides discretely also), as bubbah. above said some brands come this way. For my one remaining pair of work pants, I slit the waist band at the very back, and whipped the edges so it wouldn't pull apart. Going strong a couple years later! ldc

No offense meant here, but wouldn't it be easier to lose a couple pounds?

Have you tried losing "a couple of pounds"? I've tried and it would be easier to raise the dead.

forget losing lbs

you need to exercise. if the body has changed shape but your weight truly hasn't....then it is basically muscles that need toning.

I would take on a small free weight schedule and I bet that tone up would be so noticable in about 4-6 weeks and you will feel wonderful reshaping that body back.

Either drop some lbs or buy a bigger size , the stretching thing wont work, they wont look right wearing them....
