Best way to clean a concrete floor?

My slab is just gross. I was wondering if a carpet steam cleaner, such as one rents from a supermarket or hardware store or rental place, might be the ticket to really exorcise it.

Anyone have any experience doing that?

Snoozy, are you talking about an indoor slab or an outdoor slab!?

I cleaned my whole inside basement slab (three HUGE rooms) with Zep Neutral Floor Cleaner on my hands and knees with a good old fashioned scrub brush, rinsed with hot water twice, then sealed it (two coats) with a professional INTERIOR concrete sealer that I got at Menards, it is beautiful and very shiny!!

It's an indoor slab. I'm trying to avoid the knee scrubbing bit. If I was eager to do that, it wouldn't have gotten to the state it's in...

You should be able to rent a floor buffer at the local rental store - they make a pad somewhat like those kitchen pot scrubber pads coupled with some good cleaner probably will take the elbow work out of it. As Emmy D did, I would sugest a good seal coat of some type when you get finished.

Awesome spray cleaner and a rotary scrubber cleaned the slab in my attached sunroom.

IF you can put hot water on it there is a great way to get it clean.
First get the slab warm then place hot water on it and spread tide soap. Use the old fashion tide in the orange box. It will spit and spudder but the end result is it will pull the gunk out. Clean it up and your done.

If it is greasy use Naphtha and cover it with oil dry or some other absorbent. use a broom to sweep it up with. We did this to a factory floor and it came clean enough to put concrete finisher on ( a bad idea) it became so slick that several people fell on it if it ever becomes wet. Put the Naphtha in an sprayer and spray it over the floor in a course spray and then cover it with oil dry and sweep it up. Do not do this with a flame around. If it is just mud then a high pressure water is the best thing to use.
