Ideas for phone poles

So, we have a stack of 8 old phone poles behind the barn, and I'm seeking suggestions for how I might use them. I'm sick of mowing around them, and I've heard i shouldn't use them for garden borders because of the creosote. So, what should I do with them?

Cut them to length, stick them in the ground and put up a shed !

They make great fence posts, as well.

We have a bunch of old power poles. We use them for corner posts in a pasture and corrals.

we have used them double on either end of a clothes line, notch out for a 4x4 to go across and then use carriage bolts through them with eyes for the lines..and to fasten..

we have one with a martin house on top by our pond.

they make great supports under a bridge over a culvert or for a pond.

they are good posts for a dock or birdhouse..feeder..

Actually, my dad just laid 3 across a difficult to cross part of the creek on his property (this man never stops working), and is planking them for use as a bridge to get equipment across. FWIW, he paid about 300 plus each. Maybe you could sell them if you have no use for them.

Eight of them would make a hefty frame for a tipi.

Are you sure they are not located at our place? I've been mowing around them too!

Around here, they leave them full length, bury the biggest end about 6 to 8 feet in the ground, put a crossbeam or two at the top, and use them to hold up telephone and electric lines.

you could also use them for building a retaining wall, that is if you need one.

Oggie- Maybe I could use them to anchor our new cell phone system! Service out here is bad, so we're stringing soup cans, figured we'd drop less calls that way.

I like the idea of using them to run clothes line, but I'd have to get an auger out here to set the dang things. Actually, guess I'd have to do that anyway if I want them to stand up!

Around here used 'treated' poles are worth at least $300 each.
That is still usable power poles.

I cleaned up after a tornado a few years ago. One homeowner had a large yard with 4 of them in the very back. They didn't bother to mow around them. Forgot they were even there until that tornado came. Three of them got planted about 4 ft deep by the tornado. Only someone forgot to instruct the tornado on how to plant them straight. There were slanting about 20 degrees.

I'd use them for fence posts or the corners of a shed. Wish they were piled in my yard.

Plant one of them and put a good sized C.B. Beam Antenna with Rotor at the top.
Or Plant a few and string some wire For Ham Freq's.

They are great for birdhouses, especially martins. Also, pound nails in them and use them to grow tomatoes in grow bags....

I've always thought if I had a good inexpensive or free source of phone poles or RR ties, I would simply build raised beds and line the sides with a heavy duty plastic or tarp or whatever I happened to have around to act as a barrier.

They really do make good corner posts for outbuildings, though. Or if you have a lake you could use them as moorings for a dock or pier.
