Speed Queen dryer

My dryer heats up and still dries but isn't getting as hot as it use to. I checked the dryer hose to make sure it wasn't stopped up. Any ideas?

Lint build up would be my guess. Our dryer stopped drying clothing as well as it had. It was fairly inconsistent for a while. In time, it stopped drying. When the repairman came, he found that lint in the motor and built up badly. We called him after we smelled fire. Anyway... it works just fine now after a good motor cleaning.

Any one know how to get to the motor? I thought the back would come off but the whole center piece is one piece.

Mine sometimes get lint build up at the area it comes out of the house at, not the hose.
Could you have 2 heating elements?

Usually you can take the back off, but it is an involved process. It you know the model # you can try looking up the repair manual by doing a google search. We've cleaned ours out periodically because of the lint collecting inside the dryer, but that was more about smelling toasting lint rather than loss of heat.

Check your screen filter. Take it to the facet and see if water goes through it freely. If not was with dish soap, rinse and try. Fabric softner will cause them to stop the flow of air. Good luck. Sam

The thermostat may not be functioning properly.

We replaced one in our old dryer and it was a part that just screwed in with a quarter turn. You may or may not be able to do this yourself, but can find that by looking at an online repair manual. If you find the part number, you can google a price then decide if it would be cheaper to do it yourself or have a pro work on it.
