Leaving in AM for Xmas Trip-Got a Hiway ? for TN

Going to St Louis to see one DS & family, then to Evansville IN to other DS & family, they will go w/us to see DD & hub in N. GA mts.
THEN we get to stay in a NC mt cabin for a couple days! Whoohoo.
I'll wave at everyone along the way.

Question is: how will we get home from near Hot Springs NC just off 25-70? I understand the interstate is closed in or near that part of TN (we'll be only a few miles from TN) Also, my atlas says it will be closed thru Knoxville -ex 388-389 til late '09...?

Merry Christmas!

Patty

TG, The area where exit 388-389 off of 40 through Knoxville is opened. Will have to look up the other exit. Are you taking 40 out of Knoxville then 40 through Newport Tn towards Asheville? There was a rock slide right over the Tennessee border on 40.

Just looked at a map and the 70/25 route is one of the detours around the slide. You should be fine. Looks like you take 70/25 ....a little past where I-40 veers off. Check out ExploreAsheville.com/detour.

Annie, thanks sooo much. I went to TNDOT and they said everyting would be opened but the rockslide are of course is not. We'll be going to the cabin from Blairsville GA-so we'll avoid it there, but I was wondering about the trip home.
We should be on 70/25, like you said, and miss that area.
Thanks again-
Patty

I-40 is and will be closed. From Hot Springs you can take 25-70 through to Newport,TN and get on I-40 there.
Which way are you going from Blairsville to Hot Springs? I'd come up 19-23 bypass to Waynesville and get off at Lake Junaluska and take Rte. 209 north. Very nice ride thru the mountains.

That was the planned route-thought it would be pretty. Hope it's weather-friendly! We'll wave!

Here's a link to Cocke county which is the last county in TN near the slide. They've done a good job of routing people around the slide and through their town.
You'll have to wave pretty hard as I live a ways north of there. I did live right at the I-40 rte. 209 exit years back and worked for a beverage company delivering all through Hot Springs and Spring Creek and Madison county NC. Spring Creek had a nice store and I belive it has a resturant. Get gas in Waynesville or at the I-40 crossover. Be sure to travel through there in daylight and watch for black ice.
