It is in the list of things that Wal mart caries so your manager doesn't want to carry it.

Could it be that they carry it and are just completely out, or they do not carry it at all? Try Tractor Supply. I was there a couple of days ago and they had tons of it.

I use kerosene myself. Cheaper than lamp oil plus it is readily available.

Home Depot and Lowe's both carry it here. Haven't looked at WalMart.

I thought Walmart didn't carry it any more either, but they just moved it at mine. I found some on the row with the candles, and they also had some back in the crafts department, with all the scented oils for potpourri type burners. Try those places.

I looked and looked for a long time, thinking they had just run out and would get some more and finally gave up and bought some at Atwoods (local farm store). I knew Atwoods was high, but when I discovered it at Walmart again I realized I'd paid DOUBLE at Atwoods for exactly the same thing. Good luck!

Our Walmart had said they wouldn't be carrying it anymore but they just got some in so hopefully they have decided to stick with it.

I use kerosene, too.

If you can find a place that sells kerosene in bulk, it will be considerably cheaper than if you buy it in cans at Home Depot.

The last time I bought it (bulk), I paid $4.25 a gallon.

I have several oil lamps, and figured back in the spring I should have several gallons on hand... no one had any. Local fuel supply people were out of kerosene. When I found some lamp oil, it was mighty expensive. Hardware store has metal gallons for around 10$/gal.

Recently my bulk fuel dealer got kerosene back in stock, so I'll get a couple of five gallon can's... was only about twice the price of diesel.

So, check around, maybe some of your bulk dealers have kerosene.

Old Vet is right, down here in Arkansas Wal-mart has it, except when you need it... during our ice storm this year Shirley went to town for me to get some kerosene, we were out of power for about three weeks, when she got home and told me what she paid for it I near hit the ceiling...$12.00 a gallon...when we were kids it was $0.10 a gal so that was five gallons for fifty cents, and we could only have one light on because of the cost and a lamp full would last us over a week...we had about six or eight lamps but only one was lit at a time unless we had company....

Are you saying that one can use kerosene in the oil lamps? I know kerosene is oily, but did not know you could use it that way.

yes kerosene works just fine, last year think I was geting it for 4.25 a gallon wich would last me a while, I also used a kerosene heater so I would get 5 gallons at a time. if you get a bad grade be prepared for some smell issues, but if its good clean undyed kerosene it will work just fine with little to no odor. now most bang for your buck and some folks might have safty issues with this is a gasoline lantern though I think with a little common sense you could use it indoors and be safe , lehmans has a simular kerosene pressure lantern (wich they dont reccomend for indoor use) but man is it expensive pretty but expensive, my gas lantern puts out as much light as two regular 100 watt or 2- 20 watt cfls. last time I filled it for a fishing trip cost me 30 cents and gas was 2.50 a gallon and I can run it full out and full it will last 12-15 hours. so even if you only got it out for limited use for thing you really need good light for it might be worth having. got mine for a buck at a garage sale.

if you worry bout using gasoline in it they are duel fuel so you could use camp fuel in it also

hillbilly you are correct in warning folks about carbon monoxide but all sources of combustion pose same/simular risks. a dirty flame in any appliance will produce substantial CO. and combustion even "clean" combustion consumes oxygen, so you need to have ventilation regardless.
I would also like to add I went and looked at a lamp I havnt used since last year and still has a bit of kerosene in it, the kerosene is all ambered and if lit would stink this place up, kerosene is simular to gas in storage it does age and change so if you do pay for good grade kerosene store it proper and dont plan on indeffinite storage it will still be usable but not ideal after proper long term storage.so what im saying is dont over buy!

We have always used the dyed kerosene with no problems. Now we are down to only one lamp since we have been increasing our electric power and soon won't have any need for the kerosene lamps.

Guess I must be spoiled, because when I want to buy kerosene in bulk all I have to do is go to the local gas station and fill up. I think kerosene is running from 3.50-4.50 a gallon at the local filling stations.

I too use kerosene, but now have to go about 15 miles to an old station that still pumps it. The kind in gallon cans in the hardware store is too expensive. Luckily have have several very old lamps. We lose electricity often around here.
