Question Expirences with Alternative Energy Suppliers?

We have been noticing an increase the price per kilowatt that we pay and what our neighbors pay. I believe that the increaase is due to our low consumption. Last week the gas company changed out our meter claiming that it was unreadable due to water in the dial and all our readings were off. Needless to say it was bone dry.
Last year the city checked the water meter because of our low water consumption rate despite reciting the phrase if it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it done.
So now that I have been kicked in the wallet a.k.a. action I am reserching those alternative energy supliers that I have seen advertised on the back of store receipts. Locally there is Energex.
Any HT's out there who use one of these ? Want the Good, Bad, & Ugly Expirences!
