Call out to Tallpines, mushroom growing.

I was reading earlier today on an old thread about you growing mushrooms. Are you still doing it?

My logs innoculated with mushroom spawn are all buried under 12 inches of fresh snow.

I'm not a dedicated grower!

Last season we harvested very few mushrooms. If I had soaked the logs I probably would have gotten a few more.

Come spring I should start a few fresh logs, because my current logs are getting well past their prime.

We had very little success with the spawn we mixed in with a pile of wood chips.

Gwendolyn,

DW and I grow mushrooms (Shiitakes). We currently have 70 logs going. Like tallpines most of ours are out in the cold. We keep a few going inside during the winter for our own mushroom consumption.

Did you have any questions in particular?

Mike

I bought some mushroom spore, and sprinkled on the manure under my rabbit cages...It was a long while later.... so long I almost forgot about it, I had mushrooms poping up all over the place. Wish I knew more about growing them, I was afraid to eat them at first untill I had somone confirm they were "good" mushrooms.

Thanks for asking Mike, I was just wondering long term how things worked out with growing mushrooms. Is it something that is viable for the long term or is it just a fun project.

I have a ton of "fun projects" so I am looking for some long term profitability. I checked the local farmers markets on line and it looks like no one in my area is selling locally grown mushrooms in season.

It appears the closest is a couple in Akron which is 50 miles from me...give or take a few miles.

Thanks Tallpines, I saw the previous thread was from long ago and I wondered what had happened long term.
