Not a question but a comment

The county finally got around to reappraising ds's house. It was damaged due to a roof leak and fire before ds bought it, but the price was too good to pass up and 80% of the house is in decent condition. They dropped the appraised value down to $29,400. Nearly half the previous value. This is the house we have been working on, I have pictures posted in another thread.

Now I just have to get it back together before the county tries to condemn it. It needs roof work and an outside wall. I would have worked on it this past weekend but I came down with a nasty head cold.

Here's wishing you all the best on getting the work done and the County happy with the results.

The assessors here only go out to a property once every 5 years, so it could be that they went out to the property at the time it was in the worst condition. Since it is being worked on they will probably go back out there this year too. The assessed value this year is based on last year's sales / market. Remember, the lower the assessed value, the lower your taxes.

Lazy J, sorry, assesed value.

I don't know when they went out, but it was before we tore the insulation (which was all that was there) off the back wall.

It won't go back up in value until we put new siding on the whole thing. Probably would have to put a new roof on it too. I'll have to check to see if metal roofing lowers or raises the assesed value. I want to put a metal roof on, at least on the sections where the holes are.

I am very happy they lowered the assesed value. Ds's taxes shouldn't be as high as what they are, even if the house was in good shape. You can't sell a house for anything in this area right now.
